Lol. Point taken. I guess my confusion is I thought they were all the same, Base engine it just depends on what intake manifold/ fuel delivery system you use? It's a TBI bad because it doesn't have the roller lifters/cams? He does say he has some with roller lifters. But now I'm leaning back to...

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

@all Okay I have found this engine on eBay, was just about to purchase but then I realized it said it's a TBI motor. Does that mean it won't have the mechanical pushrod installed for a mechanical fuel pump with the lobe on the camshaft? And it does not have roller cams? I have messaged the...

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

Okay thanks. I just needed to make sure it was possible without it hanging, because I might not have that option. I was just wanting to drop the motor in at my brother's mechanic shop and then take it home and deal with it from there. I didn't want to take up a whole bunch of their time

Yeah that's what I had taken into consideration, the only reason I did it last time was so that my alignment would be pretty close to where it was (ended up being exactly where it was didn't even need to align it) . That's why I was asking because this time I'm going to have to align it regardless..

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

Oh, I didn't know that you align it while it was still hanging. I had planned on using my brother's shop to drop it in, then once I got it home worry about aligning it. I just wanted it to be dropped in real quick. Is that a problem to do it that way? Or is it just easier to do it while it's...

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

Yeah I wasn't trying to get out of realigning, I was trying to see what would be the best option to get a good starting point rather than just total random dropping. Or maybe that's just not a thing?

In my boat it would actually be easier to pull it from the adjustment nuts especially since I have everything apart. That's why I was asking,

Yeah I got you and I totally understand that . I did check my alignment last time I pulled the motor. I just pulled it from the lag bolts to give me a more accurate starting point. In fact it was dead on I didn't have to do any adjustment. Alignment tool in and out with ease, spent 10 years...

By Okay thanks for that info, so the motor is coming out either tomorrow or Thursday. should I pull the lag bolts out of the stringers or the nuts from the motor mounts? I know last time I did this I pulled the lag bolts from the stringers so that when I put the engine back in it would be...

Yep I am already doing everything myself that's why so many newbie questions because I've never had to install an engine that wasn't just drop in ready, but the one that was already in there. So mixing and matching parts is new to me. But I know I can do it I just have to learn a lot from you...

Okay so where it's mounted in that picture in the back of the block inline that is acceptable? Is there a designated bracket for that? Or do I have to fabricate something. I also had one of these engine rebuilders recommend I stick with a non-vortec but just upgrade the four barrel carb to make...

Maybe dumb question, but is that Marine rated? Or do they have it there behind the engine just because it's sitting in a garage just so they can run it? Had a guy tell me they were supposed to be in the fuel tank

Yes I've noticed that. On their Google reviews which aren't many they seem to be mixed. But being so little review I feel like people only want to leave a review when it's something negative. Everybody that's used them here on iboats that I have found were positive. So that's a good sign I...

Apparently he hasn't done anything to it. Not even removed the heads , so no head gasket change and it has 100,000 mi on it, sounds like he just took all of the accessories off , added that manifold, cleaned it up and painted it . But is now " going in a different direction " He wants $1,800 ...

Just found this on market place . Complete L31 5.7 vortec "low miles' , 906 heads, dual plane manifold , 880 block, full hydraulic roller camshaft, Has the pulley to the harmonic balancer on the floor along w a bunch of other crap lol. Machined for mechanical fuel pump but no hole for...

Okay thanks for all that info. I think I've got it narrowed down to The Marine long block I posted above that already has the intake and the carburetor upgrade and fuel pump I would just have to add my manifolds and risers . Obviously it will be my most expensive option but for my skill level it...

What's FEAD? I only found a couple under 100k and they want 1500+2k that's why I was going to go reman, And then migrate my Marine parts over to that engine. But now it looks like the intake manifold won't work, so I'd have to get one of those, I got those priced at 500 to $600 new. . Which...

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

Oh okay, I got you yeah mine had six bolts per side, so if I were to buy that motor my manifold would not work. I would have to buy a new manifold, but I could still use my carburetor if I bought that manifold pictured.. Then I would just have to add an electric fuel pump, I also came across...

I mean if it means taking it to a machine shop and having to have it machined, I'd rather just add the electric pump if it's not that big of a deal. I'm not hung up on themechanical fuel pump, I just wanted it to be compatible as possible with my old engine, So I can swap all my Marine parts...
