Upgrade to 4bbl, what about throttle cable bracket?

Is this it? Part number 805359T Or is there one that looks like my bracket, but it's wider to fit the four barrel?

Upgrade to 4bbl, what about throttle cable bracket?

Upgrading my engine from 5.7 SBC 2BBL non vortec , to 97 and up vortec. , the 8 bolt manifold just got here today that fits 4bbl carb bc I wanted to upgrade from 2bbl. My question, is how will my throttle cable bracket with my circuit breaker and solenoid mount to the new carb? The bracket...

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

I mean it kind of caught me off guard because I don't see how it could have been improperly set I've never messed with it and it's ran just fine for 16 years. Btw I have photos on page 6 of the Pistons, I don't really know what a detonation looks like it's the first time I've ever opened up an...

Yeah we got it figured out, I blew a head gasket and have piston damage I believe cylinder 3 is seized up. Ordered a new engine

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

By the way when I spoke with Michigan motorz When I was ordering, he asked me what happened to the original engine. And I told him I blew a head gasket. He said was it between cylinder 3 and 5 I said yes. He said a lot of times that is due to thunderbolt ignition timing problems causing...

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

Well that's okay, I went ahead with Michigan motorz ordered a 5.7 vortec, So they'll get the core. Then I'm going to order a fuel pump kit from jegs that has the internal pressure regulator . I'll probably be back trying to figure out how to time this distributor though lol

Just had gouges at the top, he said it could be "sleeved' and that the other cylinders looked fine. I contacted my local builder , would like him to look at it. But the guy that looked at it thinks id still be in the 3500-4500 ball park

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

Lol. Point taken. I guess my confusion is I thought they were all the same, Base engine it just depends on what intake manifold/ fuel delivery system you use? It's a TBI bad because it doesn't have the roller lifters/cams? He does say he has some with roller lifters. But now I'm leaning back to...

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

@all Okay I have found this engine on eBay, was just about to purchase but then I realized it said it's a TBI motor. Does that mean it won't have the mechanical pushrod installed for a mechanical fuel pump with the lobe on the camshaft? And it does not have roller cams? I have messaged the...

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

Okay thanks. I just needed to make sure it was possible without it hanging, because I might not have that option. I was just wanting to drop the motor in at my brother's mechanic shop and then take it home and deal with it from there. I didn't want to take up a whole bunch of their time

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

Yeah that's what I had taken into consideration, the only reason I did it last time was so that my alignment would be pretty close to where it was (ended up being exactly where it was didn't even need to align it) . That's why I was asking because this time I'm going to have to align it regardless..

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

Oh, I didn't know that you align it while it was still hanging. I had planned on using my brother's shop to drop it in, then once I got it home worry about aligning it. I just wanted it to be dropped in real quick. Is that a problem to do it that way? Or is it just easier to do it while it's...

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

Yeah I wasn't trying to get out of realigning, I was trying to see what would be the best option to get a good starting point rather than just total random dropping. Or maybe that's just not a thing?

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

In my boat it would actually be easier to pull it from the adjustment nuts especially since I have everything apart. That's why I was asking,

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

Yeah I got you and I totally understand that . I did check my alignment last time I pulled the motor. I just pulled it from the lag bolts to give me a more accurate starting point. In fact it was dead on I didn't have to do any adjustment. Alignment tool in and out with ease, spent 10 years...

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

By Okay thanks for that info, so the motor is coming out either tomorrow or Thursday. should I pull the lag bolts out of the stringers or the nuts from the motor mounts? I know last time I did this I pulled the lag bolts from the stringers so that when I put the engine back in it would be...

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

Yep I am already doing everything myself that's why so many newbie questions because I've never had to install an engine that wasn't just drop in ready, but the one that was already in there. So mixing and matching parts is new to me. But I know I can do it I just have to learn a lot from you...

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

Okay so where it's mounted in that picture in the back of the block inline that is acceptable? Is there a designated bracket for that? Or do I have to fabricate something. I also had one of these engine rebuilders recommend I stick with a non-vortec but just upgrade the four barrel carb to make...

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

Maybe dumb question, but is that Marine rated? Or do they have it there behind the engine just because it's sitting in a garage just so they can run it? Had a guy tell me they were supposed to be in the fuel tank

Yes I've noticed that. On their Google reviews which aren't many they seem to be mixed. But being so little review I feel like people only want to leave a review when it's something negative. Everybody that's used them here on iboats that I have found were positive. So that's a good sign I...
