gm v6 one bank of cylinders not firing

New plugs, coil, new distributor. Wit's end. Of course the distributor was most suspect, but a new one didn't solve it. What else could it be? Wiring maybe? Your help is much appreciated?

How to figure mileage of a kayaking route

Let's say you put in at a location on ,say, a Google map at the base of a peninsula and wish to paddle around the peninsula to a point on the other side near the base. What is the best way to get a fairly accuate estimate of the length of the curved route, using a computer program or app? I...

    Who makes dinghies (U.S. sales)

I live on Cape Cod and am looking for a new 8' or slightly less tri-hull dinghy, stable but fairly light in weight. The only source on the Cape is West Marine, but theirs is a little longer (9.4) than I want. I suspect I can order something through a marina, but I don't seem to find...

Extracting oil through dipstick pipe- I/O

My tech says it's completely acceptable to suck oil from my engine by firmly attaching the extractor intake tubing to the top of the dipstick pipe. He says it is not necessary to run tubing through the dipstick pipe to the bottom of the oil pan. Engine is 4.3l 1989. Comments? (Thanks.) Frank

    1988 OMC 4.3 l batwing manifold/riser conversion

My repair guy just erroneously replaced the old 1988 OMC batwing manifold/riser combo units with Mercruiser manifolds and risers. The angles are not correct for connection to the Y on the Cobra intermediate housing. Is there a way to make a connection or will it be necessary to start all over...

Need Engine Casting Number- Where to find? GM 4.3l/262/205hp

The engine is on a !988 Grady White Seafarer- GM 4.3l /262/ 205hp. (OMC Cobra Sterndrive.) I hope this number is accessible before I pull the engine- engine is hydrolocked. Does anyone know where the casting number is located? Thank you! Frank

Water Intake Screens Shot on 1988 4.3L Cobra

We have an unusually severe barnacle problem this year in Hyannis, MA on Cape Cod and barnacles formed inside the intake screens, obstructing the water flow and causing the engine to overheat. It was impossible to remove them without breaking the intake screens. While everything is fine now, I...

    Sea Hawk Marine Paint

Has anybody used this paint and is it better than the others? I currently use Act for the hull and Trilux for my stern drive. The boat is pulled in October in MA and the sterndrive has a serious barnacle problem. (The hull is slimy but no barnacles.) I would prefer to use a brushable paint for...

    Problems with Tank Sender

While cruising my gas gauge suddenly went to the full clockwise position. I checked the sender (resistor type with wiper) and the connections and everything seemed fine. I don't think it's the gauge. Any ideas? Help much appreciated. Frank

Too-Cold 4.3L OMC Cobra- Problem Solved!

Thought this was worth starting a new thread for. Today I installed a perfect but used 1986 OEM OMC housing. The problem was that the GLM22600 (new aftermarket housing) is designed slightly differently and lets more water through. If you look into the port that goes to the starboard manifold...

Too Low Op Temp in 4.3L V6 OMC/Merc Continues

Update: This engine was checked by my mechanic and found to have a max operating temp at 3000 rpm of about 100-125 d as the gauge indicated. Recall: New Mercruiser block, 4bbl OMC-supplied carb, mechanical fuel pump I am still looking for more ideas on this. He is going to change the...

    4.3L V6 Correct Operating Temperature

As reported in another post I recently had my old 1988 4.3L OMC 4bbl replaced with a remanufactured Merc long block (identical block.) I currently have about 6 hours on the engine and therefore am in the break-in phase. This involves keeping the RPMs between 1500 and 3000 rpm (about 3/4...

    Correct Timing for Mercruiser 4.3L

I recently had my old 1988 4.3 OMC block replaced. It was replaced with a remanufactured Mercruiser 4.3 long block, 4bbl carbureted and with the mechanical fuel pump. It was supposed to be an identical block. The guy who did it set the timing at 8 d. BTDC which he claimed was spec. He did a very...

    1987 V6 4.3L OMC Cobra-Same Engine for Both Carbs?

I recently had the original block replaced with a Mercruiser long block- supposedly the identical block to the OMC. It was a fairly easy conversion- a simple "drop in." We used the original carb which was a 4bbl. The original engine was rated at 205 hp. I am puzzled because the...

OMC 4.3L Cobra 1988 *Appeared* to Seize

Engine quickly died at acceleration to about 3K RPM. Heard "clunk" and backfire. Starter strains to turn engine, can only turn slowly and intermittently. Oil level fine, engine cold. Ran extremely smoothly before quitting. No evidence of mechanical rattles or pending oil pump failure. After...
