    The gimbal is part of the transom assembly not the outdrive. The outdrive drive shaft goes in thru the gimbal and into the motor coupler. The older models were greased from a grease fitting on the lower starboard side of the transom assembly

    Easier to drain the drive before removing, unless you have a stand to place the drive on keeping it up right If you have a greasable gimbal bearing (most are sealed now), it can be greased with drive on or off Do put fingers in gimbal bearing and turn to make sure it feels smooth when rotating
