    Need to reduce ventilation

Whether it applies to what you are doing or not, my experience with the location of the AV plate vs oncoming water is: If plate is below the surface of the water coming out from under the transom at speed, trim will have a pronounced effect on bow rise and increased speed with a reasonable...

    STAINLESS OR NOT

The Ballistic was bought at a decades old marine dealer that had a wall full of props and thrust washers. Paid $200 for it. My TPs all ran just over $100.

    STAINLESS OR NOT

"Running a SS prop on a 90hp motor is futile" Not so sir. My Ballistic SS had stellar performance on my BB as I indicated above on my 2002 stock Merc. 90 2 stroke when it was around 10 years old. My Avatar speaks for itself.

    STAINLESS OR NOT

According to TP, the only difference in props is blade thickness which I doubt would change WOT 100 RPM. I ran a 24 P SS Ballistic on my 17.5' stepped hull alum BB, picture of it in my Avatar kissing 50 at around 5600 RPM. Rev max spec. is 5500 but I don't have a problem running over it.

Help! 2000 Johnson 90hp V4 overheating on one side only...

Possibly the mechanic that setup the carb jets didn't get it right. Running an engine too lean has caused higher than normal temps and as I recall the carbs on those v4s (I had a new 1972 125 HP Johnson) had separate channels for each cylinder....aka 4 paths into the engine.....I assume that...

Tell tale or bubbler what’s normal w/o a thermostat

Water needs to be above the impeller, amount depends on the engine being tested. Yours looks OK. You are dumping exhaust into the water so expect it to warm up. Engine thermostats of which I am familiar are in the range of 125-145*F. An engine without a tstat will just run a few degrees...

    Need to reduce ventilation

I would think dropping the engine one hole will solve your problems considering your rig. I have 4 or 5 Turning Point Hustler aluminum props and they are all cupped with "rake.....gets the bow up at higher speeds", and for an aluminum prop, they have (advertise the point also) all the goodies...

Suggestions on how to fill my onboard gas tank?

This is irrelevant bit I felt compelled to say it anyway. On the subject of "filling gas tanks", remember the days when the tank was mounted on the rear of the outboard engine and you had to lean over the stern to fill the tank from a 5 gallon gas can you brought along? And.........great...

    Engine size for Wooden Boat?

Glad you posted pictures. Forget what I said. That boat is too narrow to load it up with HP.

cannot get fuel to prime to engine. 1994 ranger 361v

Assuming everything that usually works as designed works as designed, one problem may be a "snot rag" full of gelled water. Location could be right at the hose to engine connector, assuming you have a connector at the engine, on the hose side. Remove the hose at the engine.......just the hose...

    Engine size for Wooden Boat?

40 hp isn't a lot of power for that boat. In my boating circles, 40 hp on a 14-15' boat isn't uncommon, even on lightweight aluminum and fiberglass boats. As others have said, you never seem to have too much power to have a good time.

    Motor stops under power

Is your fuel tank vented....is it functioning properly? I assume you have a squeeze bulb on the fuel line. What does it feel like when the engine dies? Have you tried to squeeze it to prime the engine when it falters?

Pull start only engaged only when I pull fast

Well as you say, I never saw such and it defies the laws of physics if you ask me. If friction forces it out.....does friction put it back????? What is the mechanism that tells it that it's time go go back into hiding?

Lund Renegade 1975 vs Ranger RT198p

Having had a popular hulled 17' alum. BB. I find the hulls very hard on the buttox/backbone. Any chop of a foot or more will beat you to death at any kind of speed. I would suggest that you reconsider your objectives and look at a deep V alum boat...plenty of nice ones out there made by the...

Pull start only engaged only when I pull fast

Just a post comment, centrifugal force is what swings the pawls out and as you realized, if the resistance to moving is lowered, they will sling out easier and work better and the faster you pull the rope the more energy transferred to the pawls to swing out.

Ragged out idle 90hp 2 stroke

Next time you are out tilt the rear of the engine up maybe 10 degrees while its vibrating and see if it stops vibrating. I don't have any actual deliverable proof that fuel is puddling in the rear of those cylinders, but back in like 1960 time line, Mercury fishing motors were designed with the...

Ragged out idle 90hp 2 stroke

Idle RPM is set to 675 +/- 50 RPM in the water in F gear, boat moving. With spark advance knob on throttle arm going from control cables to stator up under the flywheel that advances the timing, per the serv. manual. 115 compression isn't too bad but the manual says anything below 120 to expect...

90 efi Mercury 4 stroke over revving

The only problem I have with that possibility is that you have 2 instruments that would have gone bad simultaneously....tach and speedometer. I had a 90 2 stroke triple, 2002 model and I was playing with the timing one day I accidentally set it too fast and the engine ran away....did a hard peg...

Seasonally changing Mercury 110 spark plugs

Fish finders run on very low frequencies. Your outboard runs on 3x that range at idle and 30 times it at top end. If you get interference it would be little specks showing up on the display....something like little black or white dots spaced out, like when it starts snowing outside.
