Out to lunch Gear Oil Prices

I just bought the gallon sized Rotella T-6 5w-40 full syn. at wallyworld for $26 and some change. Pennzoil in the quart was reasonable....forget the number as I have plenty in stock. On automotive oils, I have started using wallyworld full syn. which now carries the GM Delos or ros or however...

    Just curious

Sounds like things around here minus the concession stands and live music. My closest lake is a Govt. lake and the local sheriff and Park Patrol keep things pretty much in order.

    Just curious

Well I typed this just now and the software chose to delete it as I hadn't had a title posted. Will try again......... Just curious.....any problems that you never had to encounter before when going fishing or water sport activities by someone annoying you or your equipment at the ramp/parking...

    Just curious

With all the "stuff" going on these days anybody having any problems going to the launching ramp and all associated with that....people not associated with the fishing/sport fun activities.......problems while trying to launch or retrieving your boat, problems with your vehicle or trailer that...

What does this marking mean on this new to me outdrive?

I agree that whomever removed it and put it on the shelf marked the turns ratio for later buyer to ID. 1.5:1 is a pretty high gear ratio recalling something like 1.68 up to 2.0 (distant memory) in sales brochures. It'd have to be on a fast boat or a prop with a very shallow pitch. (opinion)

    Stand cranking 90 hp merc.

I don't have a wiring diagram handy, but the control box ignition switch produces "switched 12v" when the key is in the ON or Start positions. Switched 12v is on the purple or red/purple stripe wire where its used, whereas raw 12v is on the red wire. Check the engine side of the 8 pin wiring...

Got a new toy to test out eventually...

I see a lot of "rake" (blades bent back from the root) which is incorporated in props that run fast on light boats....fast bass boats.....designed to lift the bow at the higher speeds. A cruising prop has little to no rake, blades basically straight out from the root. This type of rake is for...

Outfitting Klamath 18 CC with 2017 60HP CT trying to figure where to start on Prop size. Probably aluminum.

I guess I was somewhat narrow minded on thinking that the CT would only be the next size up gearbox....never thought they might up it a notch and make some engines with the 150+ gear case which would allow for the 14+ diameter wheels . Your numbers are as you say, quite impressive. Nice chat!

Outfitting Klamath 18 CC with 2017 60HP CT trying to figure where to start on Prop size. Probably aluminum.

I ran a 14" dia. Hustler on my 90 Merc for a short period just for grins. I don't remember where I obtained it, not the pitch. Obviously I didn't like it as it didn't stay on but a few minutes and back to the dock to put on something else. Had 1/4" clearance under the AV plate. Had the...

    Newbie LU question

Just curious......how is it that you decided to grease the splines, how did you know that they weren't greased, and yet how did you know that the splines would disassemble easier later on if greased?

Outfitting Klamath 18 CC with 2017 60HP CT trying to figure where to start on Prop size. Probably aluminum.

Isn't the CT gear box a casting used on the higher HP 75 thru 125 HP Mercs running a 2.33 gear ratio? I have 2 of those and they run a 13+ diameter prop. whereas the 60 with regular gearbox would run a 10+ inch prop?????

Outfitting Klamath 18 CC with 2017 60HP CT trying to figure where to start on Prop size. Probably aluminum.

Do a www search for go-fast.com prop slip calculator. The gear ratio is the raw number not the X:1 whole thing. If it's 2:1 insert a 2. Then plug in your prop pitch in inches....like 16 you mentioned. Then plug in your engine's recommended max RPM like 5500. Then solve for max speed and...

'00 Mercury 90hp, oil injection still works, time to replace it with premix or replace worn parts?

At 10 years of age I decided to go to premix with my '02 90. Just felt like doing it and figured just one less thing to worry about. The other thing was that I boat seldom and the Mercs in my life like a lot of fuel to light off the first time after sitting. If the crankshaft is turning the...

    9.9hp water in crankcase oil

Condensation, especially in fall and winter months where the engine isn't run long enough to "dry out" initial operation combustion moisture......but being milky, that would/should take a lot of condensation (opinion). Drain the oil and replace it with the filter if any. Run the engine enough...

    Looking at 8hp and 15hp 4stroke Merc

The motion is contained in the device developing the thrust be it a jet engine or a twisting outboard propeller. As you said, there doesn't have to be motion of the object being subjected to the thrust.......but there can be if the objects resistance to the thrust is adequate........released...

    Looking at 8hp and 15hp 4stroke Merc

Er-ah just noticed a misnomer: ".....propeller torque will.....". Torque is pressure (Force). Thrust is pressure in motion, aka HP.....(torque x RPM)/5252. Thrust acts on the engine position.

    Looking at 8hp and 15hp 4stroke Merc

If you don't have the tiller attached to something, unless you have the engine to transom clamp bracket squeezed down tight (making tiller arm steering impossible when you attempt to guide it) propeller torque will turn the engine sideways and you would go around in circles.

    1963 Mercury 350

The thrust washer is there for the prop to have something to push against rather than the engine casting. Thrust washer is easily identified as it is thick and has a tapered inner diameter made to fit against the tapered part of the prop shaft. Tapering helps to ensure that it is centered...

    Co-owning a boat?

No deal. Same with loaning things. You never know what you get when its your time to use, or on loaners, you never know what you are getting returned to you.

    Tracker Guide V14~good?

On the "I don't want to do the work" at 82 I am coming up with the same conclusion on a lot of things. But I have to have something to occupy my time so I am selective on what I choose to invest my time and withering body abilities.
