    Re: Mercruiser 188 HP/302 Ford - Bent Steering If the end of the cable (red arrow) is what is bent, I would turn the wheel to extend it out as far as possible and cut it off. Grind/file the ends down of any burrs and see if it will pull out of the aluminum tube (Blue arrow)

    Re: backwards steering If you have rack steering, it's more than 4 bolts. You can take the rack cable off with 4 bolts, but you have to disassemble the helm unit and turn it 180? and put the rack back on. The rack has to be on top of the helm unit as shown in the picture below.
