    ok. Mine are plastic… which may be why I’m doing this project. I’ll make sure I pull those out then replace them with the metal tubes. As for the core bond, can I just cut through that? When I replace it, do you just speckle it back on like putty or should I reglass that area?

    I thought so too... already ordered one. Still looking around locally for someone to get a shim measurement for my new pinion gear. Cheapest Omc shim tool I could find is around $300 :( Any tricks you may know for getting an accurate shim measurement without that tool?

    No outboard shops around me seem to have this tool, or will even work on these old Johnson’s. Can it be done without the factory shimming unit? Do I have another option?
