My First StarCraft; 1975 18' SuperSport

So which brings me to my next section…Mods! River baiting really needs a trolling motor and I burned most of my “Terrova” fund on Jeep & Home repairs. I had an old 40# TM that I mounted next to the O/B. It fits like a glove; no interference w/ the steering and the motor clears the hull bottom...

My First StarCraft; 1975 18' SuperSport

Being sidelined going into fall was the most painful side-affect; Home, property, vehicle prep for winter as well as my favorite boating/fishing season! As you guys know by now, I’m an avid Carp fanatic and by mid-October (week of Columbus day…I had some vacation to burn) I decided to take a...

My First StarCraft; 1975 18' SuperSport

That was the only time that the boat got wet for spring & summer. Boat/fishing time was taken-up by the big 30k DIY service on my 4x4 Tundra and I ended up acquiring my deceased father-in-law’s 2012 Jeep Liberty basket case. It ate up a lot of cash, time (and my physical health) getting it...

My First StarCraft; 1975 18' SuperSport

Happy Thanksgiving Starmada! I always enjoy when folks come back after their project “completion” to update us on their likes/dislikes, modifications and/or just sharing how they're enjoying the fruits of their labor! 2021 has been quite a year for us. Mid-May is when I started thawing out my...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

The boat port is lookin' good! HOA Karens should stay off of your case. :ROFLMAO: man, factory service manuals got expensive on fleabay! if you don't need it right away, try making offers or just holding out. Here's one for the '78...70/75hp only. in '83, it's all models (I have this...

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

It has an odor (similar fishy smell that you get with MarineTex, Interlux filling epoxy, etc.) however I don't recall it having the heavy fumes that you'd encounter with paints or adhesive.

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

That's going to be a sweet parking spot for the SS! I grabbed an old 8hp wheelhorse for $150 bucks for pulling my SS around the property ...which is $150 more than your winch; that's a great idea! Glad you're on good terms with the neighbors esp in your HOA. I'm in a similar situation; we...

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

Yeah that doesn't look bad at all. I pulled a few ribs and it was the cleanest aluminum in my boat :ROFLMAO: however the same couldn't be said for the kneebrace...it was a horror show under there.

i'm glad that my thread didn't scare you away :ROFLMAO: . after the SE primer, you may want to backfill any shallow pitting with either JBWeld or MarineTex to avoid water collecting in those pits in the future.

2021 Starcraft Splash of the Year Nomination Thread

I'm surprised there are no nominations this season despite quite a few beauties with documented splashes as well as some nearing completion earlier in the season. A stroll the forum and I found 3 (maybe 4) SuperSports, 4 (maybe 5) Holidays, at least 1 Nova and even a Seafarer  that may...

I haven't used Coat-it however the Gflex is more "flexible" than Gluv-it once cured. I don't have empirical evidence but adhesion to aluminum appears to be a bit better with the Gflex as well. Yes, definitely re-buck before final sealing. If you have 1 hole and the rest is shallow...

end of an extension cord to see if your circuit breakers are working :ROFLMAO: i was wrong about the seam...it looks like it's single-rivet. If the leaks are isolated, you can try rebucking the rivets in the area. Then sealing with Gluvit, coatit or the one I really like is West System's...

it's probably open cell polystyrene (non ideal for flotation) but that will be fine for those locations if it remains intact since it isn't submerged and sponging up water.

Welcome! That's a cool boat. You're right...very similar to an SS16 esp with the integrated spray rail & double-rivet seam at the outer chine. Enough DNA to join the Starmada IMO...plus you brought pictures. :ROFLMAO: There are some subtle differences that immediately jump out is the...

a trick for plugging the hole behind the transom core: put a big chamfer on the interior side of the hole. give a solid rivet a healthy dose of 5200 buck the rivet grind the bucktail flush with the transom skin; the chamfer will fill-in with aluminum that gets smashed down and hold the rivet...

1973 Starcraft SuperSport 16ft. restoration questions

I wouldn't do that Zep between phosphoric acid & primer. I'm not a metallurgist by trade but it might have an unwanted surface reaction negating the benefits of the acid wash. If anything, after phosphoric acid you'll want a good water rinse followed by a chromate conversion (aka Alodine). It...
