    Holt oil extractor

I use the mighty vac style extractor. I don’t use the stiff hoses that came with it. I get a clear hose from hardware that fits the dipstick tube, warm the oil and suck it out.

    Cut away....

I'd get it just to give to the local marina, as I retired from there but it would make a great display, and help the boaters understand what goes on inside their motor. Most don't have a clue.

    Alpha knocking noise video.

Welp. We had one in the shop a few years ago. Very similar sound. Testing/checking things came up empty except the noise was definitely from the flywheel area. Pulled motor, removed bell and found the po had worked on it and the flywheel had come loose. Torque specs and locktite are your friend...

Engine was Full of Clear Fluid when I drained oil

All the core plugs on mine were blown out when I got it. I replaced all of them in one afternoon, included pulling the motor and re-install. The next day I took it out and test ran it. No water in the oil. Still running it 5 years later. But it did not have water in the engine oil itself before...

Engine was Full of Clear Fluid when I drained oil

When changing the oil, add a half can of sea-foam. run it and change it about three times. The sea-foam helps loosen the sludge. Back years ago we used kerosene.

    Nasty Lube

Flush it as best you can. Best thing to do is re-seal it otherwise it will eat the gears up. I had an old Elgin years back that was dang near impossible to find a seal set for back then. I’d drain it after every outing and refill before I went out again. Two years and I finally found a seal kit...

    bildge pump

Yo have a pump that electronically checks for water every few minutes. When it sees resistance it will run till the water is gone. I personally don’t care for them as they can drain the battery over time. I prefer a real float switch style. If you are plugged into shore power and the charger is...

    is this normal?

I would hope you had the muffs hooked up, running without water will destroy the impeller.

    Grooves worn in driveshaft

Shift shaft is pretty common. Easy to replace also. Hope it’s just that.

    MerCruiser single point drain leak.

Welp. Being a marine mechanic, I’ve done it. Internet didn’t come in to play there. I just got rid of what didn’t need to be there.

How do you guys mix Gas

I put the fuel in, then add the appropriate amount of oil. 50 years on doing it that way and never wrecked one yet.

    MerCruiser single point drain leak.

If you are discounting those fittings at the block and other places to poke them out, you are just adding more work to hook it back together. You’re down there, just spend the extra time to remove it. From then on it’s just like it should be.

BOATING FROM DULUTH MN TO MADELINE ISLAND WI

What Scot said. The lake can change in an instant. Many people take that same trip, I haven't. Check in at Barkers island marina and ask around there. Also are you planning to stay someplace at the island or Bayfield? Gather up all your reservations and such before you start out. I know Washburn...

How do you guys mix Gas

I’ll take an evinrude or Johnson two stroke over a merc any day of the week. I’ve worked on all of those and the mercy’s are definitely more troublesome. I have to replace the merc on my pontoon, it was on there when I bought it. Fourth year in and I’m tired of having to monkey with it all summer.

Volvo Penta Drive Belt - Lots of dust and quickly wearing??

Have a look at the crankshaft pulley. I’ve had one that was wore but not rusty. It would eat belts. Took awhile to figure out.
