    Installing a new 4.3 Mercruiser

I had the same issue. change the seal. then it was all dry inside. if the yoke is too worn with grooves, get a speedy sleeve. You have it all apart at that point, so change the other seals too. Once you change the yoke seal, the u-joints are easy to replace. cross reference to automotive and...

    1998 Bayliner Capri floor.

I put 5/8 in and put support over the tank area and ski locker. better safe than sorry and dont want to fix my floor again. because its flexing. On a side note, thickness does not increase rigidity of the floor as much as vertical support. Look at I beams or your house joists. Otherwise your...

    1998 Bayliner Capri floor.

most use 1/2". but also depends on stringer and bulkhead spacing. I think 16" span over stringers is the widest you should do without supporting it. 1708 will add alot of weight and cost a pretty penny to do the floor

    Non skid floor help

thicken gel for fairing is resin with glass bubbles and a bit cabosil. you want the wax additive which makes sanding a bit easier. this makes a paste that you can spread

Another v6 to v8 swap question

no screws needed if you tab in the new block correctly. grind the gelcoat up so you get good adhesion

Another v6 to v8 swap question

yes, grind away the the gelcoat. use thickened resin and glue in the extension block. then glass over it with at least 3 layers of 1708 tabbing it in the the side and the bottom hull. Block needs to be solid seated on all 3 sides

    Power for wakeboarding/tubing

I learned to waterski behind a 30 some hp outboard on an inflatable with wood floor. It was a bit difficult to get out of the water but that just trains you to be a good skier. You only need about 15mph to ski. depending on weight and ski size i guess

Determining Whether or not to Rebuild 1990 17' Larson

and the advise is just dangerous at times. Carbs from cars. Fuel pump wired wrong. Winterizing wrong and then wonder why it cracked. They are cutting alot of corners. Thats fine but be aware of the consequences and if you can live with them. Also find it very hysterical on the same questions...

Determining Whether or not to Rebuild 1990 17' Larson

Determining Whether or not to Rebuild 1990 17' Larson

glad you rebuild it. can check out mine too i did about 2 years ago. Mine also needed engine work. Is it 100% pretty, no. It is however mechanically sound and I have touched every part on this boat. I had it at a marina because of starting issues and they said i had a crack in my carb which was...

    Transom rebuild questions

yes. if you add the current thickness of the fiberglass and the added layers of 1708 you get there. each layer of 1708 should give you close to 1/8". depending on the filler on the fiberglass hull to the boards you need 2-4 layers of 1708 over the boards. and be within 1/16" flattness

Are surge brakes always a PIA?

I have the free backing one and like it. My whole setup weighs about #4000 but the trailer is rated for more. I have to admit that the bleeding part is a bit of a hassle but I had worse jobs. I have used a vacuum bleeder and had to go from one side to the other a couple of times to make sure the...

Alpha One Gen 1 Shift Shaft Seal

i used a threaded rod. some washers, some nuts. a socket. you will figure it out. I wouldnt hammer it since this is cast aluminum and one slip and you are in to buy a new bell housing. the worst part is to get the shift arm off. the little set screw is glued in. too much heat and you melt the...

    Transom getting replaced have ???

drill holes with everything installed or it will never line up. Some drill oversize and fill with resin and then drill again. I drilled a bit bigger and then used a thin brush and coated the holes with resin to seal. the bottom holes are the more critical ones since they will get all the water...

Advice on transom , stringers and floor rebuild

this is what i believe very loose chop strand. not sure why it is there? I had this between the transom and the plywood as filler. you want to see the pink thick woven as you have it there already. some hulls are thicker than others, make sure not to grind too deep. the bilge you show there has...

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

actually more than that. This is from the timken catalog. Nothing is always the same. There are obviously machine tolerances +- that something has to be within. nothing gets ever to absolute 0 100,000 times

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

I have to agree with scott. I replaced my main bearing too. I looked up the tolerance spec on the tapered bearing and it can be as much as 0.02mm. You may be lucky, but you could also screw it up and a kill the gears. Here is what I did. I have an indicator and I measured the old bearing height...
