    3.0L hard starting

I put the meter on it and when cranking it drops below 8v so I'm off to the store to get it tested and replaced. After cranking for 3 brief periods of 2 seconds or less it only came back to 12.5v after coming off the charger right before testing.

    3.0L hard starting

Yesterday I started the boat in the driveway on muffs and let it idle for a couple minutes, but not very long. When I got to the ramp it cranked slowly and but refused to start so I took it home and put a different battery on the charger overnight. This morning I put the charged battery in and...

    Rubbing compound for heavy oxidation

A quick update.... I spent most of the day yesterday sanding barnacle remnants from below the water line and was able to get one side compounded, polished and waxed. I probably could / should have sanded the rearmost corners where the black is typically in the water but was able to get a good...

    2008 3.0L thermostat housing sensors

Unfortunately I've been through that. The boat spent the first 7 years in mostly fresh water and when I moved to FL the next 3 were in salt. In all of that time I didn't replace the elbow / manifold / etc and I paid for it. It died in 2018 and I'm just now getting it ready to go in the water...

    2008 3.0L thermostat housing sensors

It is a salt water boat but the long block was replaced and it hasn't made it to the water yet. The thermostat housing was brought over from the original engine but the manifold, elbow and riser are new. The elbow deteriorated and let salt water into the exhaust ports which is why the long...

    2008 3.0L thermostat housing sensors

I think I figured it out.... The red one is the switch for the buzzer, the other in that pic is for the gauge and the one that I can't get out of the old housing is the one that goes to the ECM. So, I'll order two of the 3 in that amazon link and I'll try to find the switch for less than $100.

    2008 3.0L thermostat housing sensors

For some reason my pics always show up as attachments... The SN is 1A020081

    2008 3.0L thermostat housing sensors

There are 3 sensors in the thermostat housing of my 3.0L and I need to replace all 3. I'm replacing the housing because the hose nipples crumbled when I tried to remove the hoses and so far one sensor broke on the way out, one appears to have damaged threads and won't thread into the new...

    Rubbing compound for heavy oxidation

That's the plan but I can't find it local so I'll have to see how long it takes to get here. I dug some meguiars compound, polish and wax (stuff I've used on the car) out and gave it a try to make sure I didn't damage the gel coat and it came out amazing on the test section that was sanded...

    Rubbing compound for heavy oxidation

I'm gonna spend this rainy day shopping for compound and wax and buffer pads... If I'm lucky I'll get a day or two this week to try it. I took a better overall look at the boat and I've come up with a plan... The bow below the rail is in good shape so I'm just going to polish and wax from the...

    Rubbing compound for heavy oxidation

Ok so I went back to my test spot and I don't think I went deep enough with the 400 because it's still hazy. I then started a new test patch with 800, 1000,1500 and 2000 on the machine and it's not hazy but also not shiny. I know it still needs compound, polish and wax before it really shines...

    Rubbing compound for heavy oxidation

If the rain lets up I'm going to get started on the sanding. I tested with 400 and 800 by hand and it got to a consistent, smooth dull finish. I didn't see any black coming off, the water was always white. I'm obviously being careful not to cut into the black but that's the question... If I'm...

    Rubbing compound for heavy oxidation

Here's a pic of the oxidation. I bought it new in 08 and it got waxed at the start of the season every year until I moved to Florida and the season never ends. So it hasn't been waxed since 2015 and hasn't seen the water since 2018 when the engine died. She's finally almost ready to splash and...

    Rubbing compound for heavy oxidation

Are you talking wet sanding or are those the compound grits? I'm actually on the other side of the state but moving back to the gulf coast in April.

    Rubbing compound for heavy oxidation

I have a black boat that has pretty heavy oxidation that I'm looking to remove. I assume I need a cutting or rubbing compound but what's a good one that I can use on a buffer (not random orbit) that won't damage the gelcoat? Should I get both coarse and fine compounds or just a med/fine and...

2008 3.0L AlphaOne no water to engine

WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER!!!!!!!!!!!!! I changed muffs and I now have cooling water to the thermostat housing. I'll be pulling the housing to clean it thoroughly and putting a new t-stat in but I think it's good.

    Nevermind - Still having cooling issues - 2008 3.0L

I found the answer in my previous thread.... From last year.

2008 3.0L AlphaOne no water to engine

I'm draining the gearcase oil and it has water in it. I'm assuming that this is because the water pump hose isn't connected and the o-ring that I just replaced let water get past it... But I honestly don't know.

2008 3.0L AlphaOne no water to engine

Hello everyone. Long time no see. My lower unit water pump was recently replaced by a professional but afterwards I had a drive oil leak from a bad o-ring and had to pull the lower unit. When putting the lower unit back in, I was having trouble getting the water tube from the pump to connect...

    1998 / 2008 3.0L manifold/riser compatibility

I swapped a 1998 3.0L into my 2008 bow rider and have run into an issue with the exhaust. It would appear that the 1998 manifold and the 2008 riser don't quite match up so the question is, will the 2008 manifold fit the 1998 engine OR is there a gasket or conversion to allow using the 2008...
