1969 Mako cut and gut project by Lectro88

Ok. I got a question. How did they secure the cap to hull on 69 eara cc. I have been picking at this for maybe 2 months. I have picked back boat up with excavator off trailer. Cut 4” holes in cap chewed away foam from top to bottom with tool I made that give me 4-5 maybe 6 foot weak spot...

Looking to start building the stringers. And I have been doing a lot of reading. Seems that bedding stringers is done with a cushionable adhesive like a polyurethane. And what I know about the roof/gutter poly it’s tough stuff but takes months almost to cure(completely). But once it cures you...

Going to see if I can cover a few things at 1nce here. I’m still in the dismantling stage and exploratory surgery. I’m kinda thinking that the stringers aren’t maybe as bad as I originally had thought. I found a breech in glass at end side, transom end of middle keel stringer, if I said that...

1969 Mako cut and gut project by Lectro88

this is the thread I am starting for my mako project that was mildly discussed or started being discussed in another thread. Now I am going to admit. Pictures will be ugly at times. Debris, cans leaves and other stuff that should/could have been removed to make pretty images. I don’t fool with...

No don't cut the bolts, thats your second chance to get them out once you get the units separated. you may have enough of the bolt sticking out of the block, once you separate it from the foot. if lucky you can turn block upside down to penetrate/hammer, use vise grips and try again. But Now...

Thanks Faztbullet. the sleeve and boring was my plan, I haven't mic'd it, my telescope T mic set are over at my other place, so just taking it to my machine guy this week or next and then figure what oversize will clean it up. or if worth while at all. I think I trust him.. he's 74 and...

I don’t doubt your ability. (At all) There are plenty of trade secrets that many of us including myself don’t know about. I certainly don’t know it all and don’t claim it. But glad to lend hand when possible. Now electrically that’s my world and I can dance with some of the best. This boat...

    Johnson 150 Rebuild by Lectro88

I have cleaned block on machined surface, knocked the rough edges off around the ports and windows breathing down around crank. Some might call that mild porting but not really. Just a little rubbing I call it. Mildly changes flow and appearance. Smoothed the raggedy edges left in mass...

Here is the 1/4-/20 bolt I broke and back yard extracted It was 1 of the 4 that holds cdi in window to water jacket. I could heli coil it but it’s not buggared up bad enough for me to worry about. The bolt hole was a well so I cut while swimming in wd40. Split it like a piece of fire wood.

Here are some pics of catastrophic failure. This is a minimum of a sleeve job in cyl #1. I didn’t see the crack and distortion in cylinder port til I stuck phone down in there for a close up pic. I have picked my worst engine to start with. This cylinder was producing 50psi. Not sure how...

Thats a pretty good idea.. My only counter question to that is do you JB weld that wee hole shut after you get the bolt out.. Because... To me.. just saying... you are opening a place for water and salt water to get in and oxidize again, with better accessibility this time. And another thing...

Hello everyone. I am kinda new to site and boating, But I have turned my share of wrenches over the last 40 years. As promised.. I am starting my own thread. Another thing I did. off topic of stuck bolts. It will be a month or so for me. and I don't do this daily, so.. Take Pics of everything..! I have 2 other motors I can go look at. Most aren't that lucky. Keep your bolts together. A zip loc bag and a sharpie.. or cans with lids. then box that...

For me... I don't think the heat really helped me. But its the go to method for many. The Aluminum and heat I don't care for. Aluminum soaks up heat like a sponge. its hard to keep hot as it disapates into the mass or rest of the block. and cools before it expands. Its a pain to weld or...

Also, heating with the penetrating can draw fluid in those places needed. Some may say spraying while hot is quenching. messing with temper or bolt strength. I hope you are not getting hot enough to be doing that. But again, heat, hitting, spraying, careful torque. time, patience... its not a...

I would NOT drill the powerhead, The water jacket is all through there. drilling the bolt at a funky angle is begging to break a bit... especially a tiny bit. Your machine shop should be able to extract any broken bolts, call and ask. Mapp torch is fine. I use coleman gas on torch, Don't try to...
