    Experts will come along but running without the battery connected ruins the rectifier.....so I'm told. Your outboard doesn't need a battery to run though and the charge coil and the ignition stuff are totally separate.

    Okay....one q you didn't answer. Have you started the motor or done the jump test with the outboard unconnected from the remote control? You can isolate some of the grounds by doing that... Or a ignition switch that hasn't been wired correctly.

    I suggest borrowing a bigger battery and test....what do you have to loose? How are your battery cables? Have you tested volts at the solenoid and at the starter during start up? OMC guidelines, as you stated, doesn't meet spec. Just saying.

Even though someone on here said a lawnmower battery will work, at least a group 24 battery would be my smallest battery like I already said.
