    Gurgling coming from exhaust

Sounds good. And you never defiantly said but since you are running on a hose (not muffs), your flushing hose connection is the blue cap style (see post 6) and picture below. Is this correct? (not trying to be rude, just double checking....) And for reference, my 2005 5.0 GXi-E running on the...

2003 5.7 gxi Volvo penta seems to go into safe mode with no alarm

Ah, got it, pressure test at speed already done 😊. And other potential issues addressed. So now it’s into the computer as you suspect. Only thing I can think of is to use a test light hooked into the backside of the injector plug and seeing that the signal to fire the injectors ‘goes away’ or...

    4.3 GL water in oil

You did not mention if you detected water in the oil pan (dipstick with dreaded milky foam) or if you changed out the oil and/or oil filter and found evidence of water. Where I am going with this is I wonder if it was condensation build up vs. water jacket leak. Also, something that is...

    Gurgling coming from exhaust

Clearly, it’s much harder to do this via back-and-forth postings vs. being there and I am not sure I can help further but I will give it a try. The symptoms you are having is overheating. With the boat in the water, it overheats at the dock at idle or perhaps at a slightly elevated RPM. Even...

2003 5.7 gxi Volvo penta seems to go into safe mode with no alarm

I assume your 30 PSI fuel pump pressure was taken while idling and sitting at the dock, correct? Flow requirements are minimal at idle compared to 4500 RPM. Its possible you are not getting the flow (volume) needed at 3000 RPM and higher which seems to you as if in ‘safe mode’. Your lean...

2003 5.7 gxi Volvo penta seems to go into safe mode with no alarm

Sargetreetrunck, a couple of thoughts: if you changed up the wires, should also do the rotor and cap unless new recently. And if suspect the fuel pump, which these circa pumps have paint issues, check out this link.

    VP 5.0GXi-B issue - low RPM/problem with a plane

Here is a video (link) in how to use a Piston Stop Tool and find TDC. As AllDodge says its involved and as the video highlights you can damage the piston if you use the starter motor (or do not have a good feel while turning over the motor by hand). You need to have ALL the spark plugs removed...

    Parts lists with part numbers

Apologies I must have fat fringed the part no. or looked up the wrong variant. I have found that this link uses a parts finder like how the old VP store worked. I looked up your engine and sure enough came back with your number 3817287 for the belt and 3885250 for the tensioner and 3861009 for...

    Parts lists with part numbers

It should be VP Part No. 3586326. What aftermarket brands / part nos. also work i do not know. At one point i got told a Goodyear Gatorback 4060990 would work. I do not recall it if it was too large or small, but did not work. I used to use the iBoats parts store as the master part no...

1999 Volvo Penta 4.3 - no reading on temperature gauge

I’m not familiar with this design but looks ok. Hopefully others will chime in. Get yourself an IR gun > they are inexpensive (u don’t need a high end one) and a good diagnostic tool to have. Also if u do not mind: start another post under “Other > iBoats Fourm and Website Issues “ on how you...

12V battery system - adding ACR

@SlipperyOar: I was reviewing some of my notes and posts on ACRs and realized that I made a mistake in my post #4. I had assumed your engine's alternator output well exceeded 12 amps, hence my comment / concern. I now see you originally posted the output of it is a max of 10A which I missed...
