    Life Jackets

What the new rule says is if the boat is equipped with the kill switch, it is to be utilized / worn. Have various PFD on board and the ones we use most are the Mustangs, type 2 and 3 and inflatable. Also have a couple of ski vests if someone wants that style that day.

    98 mercruiser 5.0 possibly overheating

Doesn't look bad at all, to me. What was the outside air temperature when you running it on the hose? If it is cool outside, perfectly normal.

    Bayliner Blank Gauge Cluster?

I imagine a picture of the cracked gauge cluster (not a branny new one) may assist in conclusions and suggestions.

    Oil pan drain hose

On last boat, extended that hose and connected to 12 VDC turbo charger oil used scavenger pump (about $40). Pumped out all the cold oil in under 1 minute.

    Thunderbolt V doesn’t advance timing

I have seen it done both ways, but only with engine shut down is the way I do it

trailer makes banging noise when stop & starting

I had a the banging problem on a trailer before that was corrected when the shocks (unit had 2 in it) were replaced. Fix didn't last long. It did not have an oscillating problem. So, I guess they serve 2 purposes. Learned to just live with it.

    Cooling System Generic Info

At 65 mph, open window (any window) on your car and stick your hand out. You will instantly see how the water being forced into the intakes works.

Testing later model power steering booster

Didn't say that. pump pressure test gives the pump a pass. In the absence of a clearly defined test procedure: After removing clevis pin from cable end, removing cable from tube and manually moving the steering tube, while engine is running, will see if the assy moves hydraulically. That will...

Testing later model power steering booster

Has the pump pressure been tested? Process should be same on old and new. Has the inside of steering tube been cleaned really clean and lubed up with new grease? 12 Gauge shotgun brushes work well. If there is any binding in there, it screws everything up.

trailer makes banging noise when stop & starting

Yeah, the shock doesn't do much dampening on stop, that is the MC / hydraulics. The shock is supposed to stop the clunk when starting to move (the most annoying part). Haven't seen one work 100% yet.

Testing later model power steering booster

The pressure test on the line from the pump would be the same. I tested mine by disconnecting the steering cable and manually moved the steering tube / slide back and fourth (carefully because it can bite your hand) to see if it actuated the steering assist and it did. Eliminated it or pump...

Testing later model power steering booster

Not sure you will find a manual on the breakdown / repair of the unit. Mercruiser manual states that section is "non-servicable" and must be replaced as a unit. As a side note: I believe that the biggest engineering / design failure of the assy is there are no alignment guides or even alignment...

trailer makes banging noise when stop & starting

The shock absorber in the surge assy is kaput. Works a snubber as the assy slides back and forth. Very common problem

    Control box help

Why not get one for the mercruiser setup, instead of O/B? Not 100% sure what is different, other than maybe the wiring harness. Priced about the same. Lots of choices out there, but I would beware of the Asian super cheap stuff, as parts may not available.

Hose leak at trim pump oil reservoir

My bad... I was on a trim tab pump thought process. You are correct in that the mercruiser trim pump has a solid body that has the fittings machined into it. Wondering if he is sure it is at the fittings and not some other part of the pump seeping oil and looking like it is the hose(s), like...

    Hydraulic lifters 7.4 1992 Mercruisers

Another point, the lifters and cam break in / seat in together. Should never mix them up after break in or failure is usually imminent.

Hose leak at trim pump oil reservoir

Not uncommon. A kit is available to re-seal the pump hose connections.

    Hydraulic lifters 7.4 1992 Mercruisers

If lifter face is worn and the cam lobe is worn, then the cam is junk. Put in a "new" lifter and it will fail again, soon after.
