Pooched fuel pump.... need replacement options

Ok, engine is a 1980 120hp 2.5l. Fuel pump appears to be pooched, and is NLA through all sources I have seen. Not totally married to the idea of an engine driven pump, so looking for options. (Mercruiser p/n 86234A4 for the whole pump, or 49089A1 for the diaphragm kit). Sierra shows a 18-7278 in...

Cooling engine - direct water hookup

if your outdrive is off the engine, I would disconnect the hose from the transom connector that goes to the engine (raw water supply line inside the engine bay). this is how I have it set up on my 120 at the moment, I have the outdrive off for servicing and this connects to the same point that...

engine control issue for Mercruiser 120 (MC-1)

alright just a fast update for those that may be interested...... got some 1/4-20 coupling nuts about 3/4 inch long at the local hardware store this morning, flipped the side where the bolt head is, and buttoned it up. Got it mounted to the boat, and cables hooked up with no issues. New...

engine control issue for Mercruiser 120 (MC-1)

ok, since I dont see a separate forum for the binnacle controls, its going to go here. If this is the wrong spot, mods, feel free to move it. Boat is a 1980 Galaxy V-hull, 16 foot with the Mercruiser 120 setup. Binnacle controls are Hi-Lex controls. Originals were shot. Wouldnt move out of...

    MC-1 bellows clamp preferred locations

Awesome. I have the #6 manual downloaded, but hadn’t checked it yet. Nice that it gets that specific. Clamps were indeed a 5/16 hex, at least on mine

    MC-1 bellows clamp preferred locations

perfect.... definitely not where the clamps were when I took it apart!!!

    MC-1 bellows clamp preferred locations

Don’t really have a “procedure” I’m following. Yours seems like it will work nicely though. Was mostly seeing where folks aim the hose clamps for access when tightening. Mine were buried at 12 o clock on the joint bellows and 9o’clock behind the water tube for the exhaust. Couldn’t see them...

    MC-1 bellows clamp preferred locations

Ok, normally I would just put the clamps back in the approximate place they were, but that aint happening. Even using the flexible tool to get to the clamps, most of them were located in areas where there isnt even access for that. Is there a preferred clocking on the clamps that while still...

    Bellhousing pivot bolt issues....

Got the buggers...... Autozone had a 1/2 inch allen that is 1/2 inch drive. kept the force much closer to the bolt, and heat did the trick. kept a bit of pressure on the breaker bar, and when the loctite released, they came out easy. Good thing I am doing this job, the bellows were SHOT, same as...

boat and trailer sit very low (to my eye)

Ok, I think Ill start with flipping the axle. Its cheap, and hopefully the added inch or two will help the ground clearance issue. they like to make the speed bumps HUGE around here, and I dont feel like grounding the trailer on them. if that doesnt help, then a straight axle it is. As for the...

boat and trailer sit very low (to my eye)

t The bunks need replacement, but the clearance issue is between the frame and the pavement. I only have about 6" between the low point of the trailer and the ground. Bunks will help get the boat higher, but wont stop the trailer from scraping on the small mountains they call speed bumps around...

    Bellhousing pivot bolt issues....

ok, ill get her good and hot with the propane torch after I see if I can procure a 1/2" allen tool here in town. Would prefer to get this off today, rather than have it sit in the yard apart for a week or so waiting on parts/tools..... just wish there was better access to the gimbal housing...

    Bellhousing pivot bolt issues....

Ok, I get that these are a bugger to remove to change the bellows. I had the tool, I reefed on it with a breaker bar, and I stripped the splines on the tool..... new one is on the way... However, before I jack another tool up, or worse strip the spline in the pivot bolt, about how much heat is...

boat and trailer sit very low (to my eye)

Issue isnt completely with the truck. I can compensate for that..... :D Its just a 1995 F250 4x4, so it does sit pretty tall. However I still think the trailer is too low even just on the jack, with the frame leveled.... here are a few pics. its currently sitting on the jack in the front, with...

boat and trailer sit very low (to my eye)

ok, boat is just a basic 16 foot fiberglass v-hull runabout. Nothing fancy. Sitting on the trailer I cannot lower the outdrive without burying the skeg, which makes maintenance a pain in the posterior. Trailer came with the boat, and appears to be appropriately sized. Tires are 215/75/14's. axle...

    Back after a LONG hiatus....

Nope. It’s staying as the 2.5 for now. If I was gonna convert it. It would go all the way to a 5.7. Would be massively overpowered, but also a hell of a lot of fun. If I gotta fabricate, let’s go all in!!

    Back after a LONG hiatus....

Well, Im back in a boat after about a decade now without. Life kicked me hard in the cajones, had to move, sell the boat, move again, and then bought a house and tow vehicle... so naturally, the wife thought the best thing to do would be to buy a boat. Since we didnt learn anything from the...

    early end to my season.....:(

Looks like my season is over for now. Just got word that the roaring noise in the back of the tow vehicle (2002 dakota) is the differential bearings. No tow vehicle, no boating. Enjoy whats left folks, hope to see you on the water next summer

    bimini top, adjustment?

Just got a new bimini put onto my boat to replace the original convertible top that came with it. All I thought was good, but I have an issue with the fabric ballooning up over the frames when going at speed (20-25mph). I know the max speed is 25 mph with the top up, and I was trying to...
