Cooling engine - direct water hookup

If I want to hook up a garden hose directly to my motor, bypassing my impeller so I don’t burn it up, where would I hook it up to?

if your outdrive is off the engine, I would disconnect the hose from the transom connector that goes to the engine (raw water supply line inside the engine bay). this is how I have it set up on my 120 at the moment, I have the outdrive off for servicing and this connects to the same point that the water passes through. If you dont want to disconnect it at the transom, follow that hose to where it hooks to the engine, and disconnect it there, and hook up a short section of hose with a standard female garden hose connector on the other end.

If you still have your outdrive attached, disregard this, you will roast your raw water impeller in the lower unit (if you have an alpha or earlier type with the water pump in the lower unit, this is how I would do it, IIRC the Bravo drives have a different style pump, and I am not familiar with how to do them)

By bypassing the impeller it you will burn it up unless its not turning ....it needs water supplied to it unless disconnected by removing the drive ( alpha in drive impeller or removing the belt in a bravo set up )

Large hose on right hand side of the thermostat housing is the cold water in either jam the water supply in the other end of this hose and clamp it down or rig up a from to between water supply hose and thermostat housing. Ive use old radiator hoses I have lying around.

OK I guess I left out a few important details. The outdrive has been removed from the boat, I just installed a new motor and I want to run it on the water so I can run it for a little bit so it doesn’t overheat. The impeller is mounted on the side of the motor, it is a bravo three outdrive. The impeller is it are located inside the lower unit or on the alphas, this is a bravo so there is no worries about burning it up in the outdrive. I just would like to know which hose to hook to on the thermostat housing so to speak

Also another area of concern, I am used to Sea-Doo JetSki’s where you cannot have the water running through the motor until the motor has started. Can I just turn the water on without starting the motor, will it do any damage?

Oh if outdrive is off jam the hose in the water passage where drive meets bellhousing. You can cut an old washing machine hose in half fits in pretty good. hold it with a bungee etc this will keep raw water pump lubed up and primed.

You can turn the water on before it runs, i usually turn the hose on, climb in and fir it up

You can also just attach your garden host directly to the 'in' line going to the thermostat housing.

Ok, another question I gave is once I hook up my mechanical fuel pump, shouldn’t There be fuel pumping to the carb while turning motor over? I’ve tried 2 different used mechanical fuel pumps and neither one seems to be pumping fuel… what gives…..

I just had a thought, there’s a little. Nipple towards the top of the pump that nothing on it. Anyone know where it goes to, there’s nothing on it?

That is the overflow port for a diaphragm rupture. Raw fuel will spill out and fill the bilge, very dangerous

There should be a yellow colored transparent hose from that barb to the carburetor. That way any fuel present will enter the carb/engine and not directly into the bilge
