    install the dist cap to locate where #1 is on the cap and set rotor to that position slight CCW of the exact position. rotor will turn CW as it drops in to the oil pump with rotor facing #1 pin in the dist cap

    Do you have the flat cap and is it computer controlled? If yes ,you install the dist with the rotor in a certain position with number 1 at TDC compression and the timing mark at 0 on the balancer and the computer does the timing

    If the alignment iis correct, the drive will easily slip on . That said ,review your work. I can have a measurement for you tomorrow from face of gimbal to edge of housing.

    All battery neg`s should be connected together,Pos should be #1 and #2 on the battery switch. The charging system is showing a fault because its the engine is not connected to the battery neg.

    If its oil you have a leak and the res bottle would be showing low. Your drive is a alpha gen ii type

    But it fires right back up with starting fluid Not the best to use but that is showing lack of fuel. Test with a remote tank first. If its now ok you have a fuel delivery issue. the anti-syphon may be causing this or you have a screen INSIDE the fuel pickup tube. Unscrew the pickup tube...

    If its hard in and out of gear check for the shift mechanism damage. If only difficult coming out of gear in the water then check the shift interupter for correct operation
