    Budget Boat Covers

Kinda' hard to tell without seeing the actual material. I had a custom boat cover that lasted (is still lasting, more to it) ages - over 20 years old. And I have one that dad bought to fit the Bayliner that hung in for quite a while, but is pretty rough now. Two of our boats up north just get...

    OMC 1986 Bayliner Capri.

@Bondo - if you "No," with out the "Ayuh," is that like the rest of us saying "heck no?"

OMC 2.5L 120 HP Engine max RPM at WOT

Is this a "new to you" boat, or has it performed better in the past? If it's new to you, I would start by confirming simple stuff: gear lube is good, ballgears are in good shape, good fuel flow, good compression, carb is clean and adjusted ... etc.

    OMC 1986 Bayliner Capri.

The main difference is that Mercruiser is still in business. So, not as much support out there for OMC. A later model OMC would be more like a Mercruiser; transom mounted with a more typical gimbal bearing assembly to the stern drive. OMC before 1987 were mounted to the Stringers of the boat...

    OMC 1986 Bayliner Capri.

From the sounds of it ... run away. Mid 80s Bayliners don't have a good reputation. So if the hull isn't excellent shape, you could have problems structurally. OMC has been out of business for a while and 1986 would likely still be a mechanical shift Stringer drive. If you know what you're...

OMC 2.5L 120 HP Engine max RPM at WOT

It's actually a Chevy 153 I think. 120HP. 4,000 to 4,400 should be your WOT RPM. And with that prop and pitch, you should at least get the RPMs if not the speed.

    New dog

It's a cool sound when you get a whole fleet of 'em on the hunt barking their heads off. They've got a unique bark.

    Breakfast Dishes and Biscuits

I've never made biscuits. I love biscuits and gravy, but shouldn't eat is too much ... so it's an occasional treat when I'm traveling. For breakfast, I'm typically playing around with different variations on the omelette. Mostly like trying different sausages (local store here in town does a...

    New dog

If he's used to being inside, it'll take him a while to get used to living outdoors. If he's used to being outside, but with three other dogs I don't know how long it'll take him to calm down. (I haven't had an outdoor dog since my great-grandfather's hunting spaniels.) I've always found...

    Hot rod/mods

Frank Acampora (see HERE) used to do quite a bit of what I would call boat hotrodding. He passed away a while ago, but he's posted quite a bit on the site about his antics.

1400 RPM loss from 13 to 15 pitch!!!

I've cleaned a few things up in this thread. Keep it civil or this thread gets locked. Debate is fine, but there's no need to insult or taunt. If you've made your point - let it be.

    Boat identification

It will likely only have a HIN stamped in the hull if it's a U.S. based manufacturer. I'm not sure that other countries require HIN numbers.

Looking for reviews on 2009 Bayliner 175

I've got an '02 195 Classic. It's nothing special, but it's been a good boat for us. Dad bought it new, and I got it when my parents couldn't really use it any longer. If the boat is in very good condition / well cared for ... it can be a very good boat. But like earlier stated: it's an entry...

    Biggest problem with boating?

Generally, in my opinion, the biggest problem in boating is "you." Knowing why you boat, knowing how much money you're willing to spend, what you're willing to learn and do, what you intend to put up with, etc. Owning a boat requirers effort and money; how much of either is up to you. Being on...

    Boat Disposal

The trailer is at least worth trying to sell. The boat could be a "freebie" bonus that comes with it.
