    Planning out installing NMEA 2k

Can't see giving up display space on a MFD to display engine data with SmartCraft gauge(s) already in place. As an automation guy, Active Trim sounds like a nightmare waiting to happen.

    GX1850

I need to look at a doc I have at work, but I’m pretty sure NMEA 2000 is hot swappable. That being the case, it doesn’t matter when a node is powered up. A node will try to connect continuously until successful or times out. I suspect you have a power issue between vessel view and the NMEA...

    Planning out installing NMEA 2k

Your existing gauges are “Smart Craft” so you currently have two network protocols available for use on the boat. You have “SimNet” to interface your plotters and radar and you have “Smart craft” to interface with the engine instrumentation. Not sure what introducing a third party protocol to...

Bone headed move - put the plug in with 3M 4200

Best to use a little bit of grease on the threads as a lubricate so the threads don’t gull. Tight wise, the seal is a tapered, interference fit. Hand tight until thread contact then a quarter to half a turn further to seal.

Wouldn’t want it galvanized….. Goggle “generator shed”

    Planning out installing NMEA 2k

What are you trying to do? Just beware that manufacturers play games with their network communications. Their proprietary communications (sea Talk, Simnet, etc.) protocols typically support more and faster data transmission than NMEA 2000. I would use the proprietary communications unless you...

Installed with the arrows in the right direction? Holding the ball vertical while pumping?

    120VAC NC Remote switch

Doesn’t surprise me. Best engineering practice discourages bringing a circuit back up from a loss of power, in an energized condition, for safety/liability reasons.

    Nobody fishing?

That’s because eBay’s commission doesn't include shipping cost Charge $1 for part and $20 shipping…pay commission on $1. Need to compare total cost, door to door to make the comparison

to replace the transom or not?

You’re not listening for a particular sound. You’re listening for very subtle changes in frequency from one point to another. Same as checking for cracks and corrosion in a metal structure with a ball peen hammer.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

You can't bend 6061. The money you save in materiel using 6061 (roughly 20%) is a drop in the bucket to the difference in fabrication (welding) costs

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Copper is added for strength and improve machining properties. No good for saltwater environments. T = tempered. Don't bend…cracks

    Yard sale grinder

You can say that again. My first job I had to weld up these large aluminum enclosures then grind the welds then finish for painting with a 5 hp Milwaukee grinder, #80 soft pads, a squirt can of oil.

Just about every drift when playing chicken with a bridge in a 4-6 kt. current....lol Don't conflate fast and acceleration. Big difference between "Fast" to avoid and "Fast" to get places quicker

Compression is a bit low. Don't know if it’s apples to oranges comparison, but my 1997 is # 97-100 all the way around. Could be the gauge. What rpm is your idle set at? Mine has not idled at spec (650 rpm) since new. @ 725 it will purr like a kitten all day
