    New Journey

Yeah, I've now got one complete 115hp with good compression and a complete 115hp and 90hp, both with one bad cylinder. The bad 115hp has one cylinder reading 100psi, so not sure yet if its completely gone, or maybe just a stuck ring. This 90hp was 120-125psi on all but #3. Once I cleared the...

    New Journey

Picked up another TOP over the weekend. Was sitting on an old fiberglass boat that they were trying to get rid of. Pulled the plugs and found cylinder #3 to have a bit of an issue. Unfortunate, but I grabbed it anyways for $100. '84 with the integrated power tilt and a complete set of...

Adding Gunwale Rod Holder to Starcraft Mariner?

Starting on page 13 of my MR180 build in my signature, you'll see pictures of the rod holders I added to my gunnels. I guess I could have referenced those earlier, but now that pictures are back up, I can't seem to find where I saved them all...

    1980 SS 181 rebuild.

3M80, Contact Cement, or the Nautolex adhesive. Whichever way you go, I would hit the glossy surface with an orbital sander to give it some teeth. Mechanically secure the edges with stainless staples. I've generally went with the 3M80 on the decking and Contact Cement on any aluminum.

1979 Mariner 18 seating and center console layuot

I've got several brochure pages and specs saved, but with the picture upload dilemma, I can't just drop them here. Shoot me a DM with an email address if you want me to send them to you. Nothing for the '79, but have '72, '77, '82, '86, etc. Max HP is general 115hp for the 18ft Mariner or MR...

    1980 SS 181 rebuild.

My standard for decking is ACX ply, sealed with Helmsman Spar, and topped with Nautolex vinyl. I use the ACX for the transom too, but that I typical seal with a two part epoxy. My boats are garage kept and covered to the elements. Most of the damage on these old decks are from years of abuse...

    Decisions

If I had the room, and the open water, I'd pick it up if it were a solid hull/trailer. I just have a residential garage stall and inland lakes, so one 18ft or smaller is my threshold. I've been tempted by some great deals on good looking hulls, but time and space were the deal breakers.

    Decisions

If I had the space, I'd have a few different hulls waiting in the wings. I think it boils down to what you're really looking for in the long term. The condition of the hull, trailer, and presence of critical/desired parts/components would also be a determining factor. A $500 dent free and...

    1972 Starcraft Nova

Yes, more forgiving than contact cement, but still very finicky.

What level of corrosion is acceptable?

The spray foam used is a big red flag...tip of the iceberg. Of note, I do not believe there ever was an I/O Mariner, they were all outboards.

What level of corrosion is acceptable?

Hack job non-Mariner, not worth a 1hr drive much less a 12hr. Don't waste your time.

    1972 Starcraft Nova

3M80, Contact Cement, or the Nautolex adhesive. Whichever way you go, I would hit the glossy surface with an orbital sander to give it some teeth. Mechanically secure the edges with stainless staples. On the Nova, the side panels will cover any staples in the open cockpit and those under the...

Adding Gunwale Rod Holder to Starcraft Mariner?

I'd share some pics, but we are having some picture upload issues at the moment. I did this on my MR180. Just make sure your spacing is right between the gunnel inside/outside trim and whatever angle you decide to use works along the inside of the hull and your specific clearances. The tail end...

1976 Montego 16- The "Free" Puppy

https://www.xylem.com/siteassets/brand/rule/resources/guideline/rule-quick-reference-flyer.pdf You could move up to 800 without issue. I always like to have it and not need it rather than need it and not have it. I lean towards the independent standard pump and float switch from a failure...

1976 Montego 16- The "Free" Puppy

I'd skip the full auto and go to a manual with float switch, wired direct to the battery as well as the console as you noted in an earlier post. Your drain tube/hole will indicate how big you can go as the larger pumps require a larger hole. I think after 800gph it moves up from the 3/4" hose...
