    1978 Evinrude 70HP- Trouble starting/idling/bogging under load

not sure if i am the other guy, but i was saying the temp sender wont close until 190-210f on this motor. head temp should be 125-152.5f at the top of the head at 900rpm yes.

Old motors DEMAND to be retired when they are 65 years old..

the later 1997-1999 Force motors were awesome. Ditto for most of the older Chrysler . Notice the demographic they were sold to though: mostly clueless new boat owners. any 2 stroke enthusiast can keep them running just as long as any other brand.

    1978 Evinrude 70HP- Trouble starting/idling/bogging under load

the alarm should sound around 196-210f with the solid tan temp wire. the later blue striped ones are closed around 240f. if it closed at 140-150f, you'd be driving around with a constant alarm!

outboard won't stay idling or rev up

these carbs with the plastic idle circuit covers on top were designed to be able to clear out the delicate idle circuit very easily. you will see a hole underneath that connects to the idle pickup tube (tiny tube inside the large one for high speed). use a syringe with alcohol or can of carb...

    91 evinrude 150 set timing

you might find when using a digital CDI (blue) pack, you can now use a timing light! no need for the easy timer or factory tool.

    96 johnson 150

oh didnt read its 4 dead cylinder so thats good news. id run a power pack load test and if thats fine use the timing tool to confirm the optical eye is blinking correctly from RED to GREEN as it passes the shutter. that will atleast rule out the major ignition stuff that goes bad occasionally...

    2003 DT150S Oil flow issue/alarm limit

id have to look at my shop manual, but i think atleast part of the oil warning system is in the CDI, not just the oil warning module. meaning it could be a faulty CDI but just run through the troubleshooting section with a meter and you will find which one. no parts anymore so hopefully its just...

    2003 DT150S Oil flow issue/alarm limit

yes it will still trip the alarm there is no "oil in fuel" sensor on any motor! i was saying do that so there is a sufficient lube for the rotating assembly should it really not be pumping oil. i have no idea what you are looking at but the oil level sensor is a rod with a float inside the oil...

    96 Evinrude 50 Cutting Out

just FYI this is why the manual has you use a power pack LOAD tester to rule out any issues under way. ive seen motors spark fine when turning over, but pack breaks down under load. combined with terminal extenders to each coil, you can rule out those 2 important parts. to test the diode in the...

    2003 DT150S Oil flow issue/alarm limit

yes when was the last time you replaced the oil flow sensor? id add 100:1 (or 50:1) to your main tank till you get this sorted! i used to be able to repair them, but now i just replace. the oil level sender in the tank will also tell the computer to pull the timing like described if it tests...

    1977 Johnson 140 can’t turn over

just FYI for the future it takes mere seconds to do a continuity test on power and ground cables. should see a very low number on each, indicating its got hardly any resistance. or a continuity beep test will do.

    3.3 HP Johnson.

i did too but apparently not. always thought OMC only partnered with Suzuki. strangely Mercury also used the same powerheads! so thats Mercury, OMC and Nissan/tohatsu all using the same powerhead and i think mid/gearcase too.

1992 E'rude 8 hp. link and synch .... deciphering the manual

ohh thats a 1st year model . pretty neat. they did a bunch of changes to that motor for 1993 or around there so i think the throttle, ignition, choke link and some other stuff is slightly different than his but great video. worth pointing out that the plastic idle circuit cover on these did have...

1992 E'rude 8 hp. link and synch .... deciphering the manual

nope no need. a torx t30 or whatever torx you can jam in there will work fine. some seem to be hex head though but forgot which ones. its always a good idea in my opinion to buy an el-cheapo hex/torx amazon assortment set for like $12. one of those will fit:)

1992 E'rude 8 hp. link and synch .... deciphering the manual

assuming this is the newer top mounted starter model being 1992. if yes, there are basically 5 ways to screw up the idle... badly. idle speed screw, slow speed mixture needle , throttle adjust at end of handle, cam follower set screw, and high speed throttle cam set screw. none involve anything...
