Lots of mis-information on compression in 2 strokes.----see post #23 and #38.

I did a compression test this morning, cold at 60 F, I'm getting 110,110,110,100,105 and 95. I'm picking another compression tester today, I have done some research, there was a comment about a crank case air leak. This is a possibility, other than disassembling the motor, can it be tested?

This motor did overheat, it's in my shop, my plan is to pull and do another rebuild, not matter what if done, its only running on 2 cylinders, I can cover the carb, my hand gets wet, but motor doesn't respond to the 4 dead cylinders,

What happens if the pistons were not in the same cylinder? should I have bought new pistons? I know the rods are offset for clearance, on the crankshaft. I've had the motor running wot. its fine, it's the hard starting and running on 2 cylinders at idle.

I doubt the motor will idle on 2 cylinders !!------Pistons must be installed correctly.-----There are 3 port pistons and 3 starboard pistons.-----And they are marked with " UP " or " exhaust side "

oh didnt read its 4 dead cylinder so thats good news. id run a power pack load test and if thats fine use the timing tool to confirm the optical eye is blinking correctly from RED to GREEN as it passes the shutter. that will atleast rule out the major ignition stuff that goes bad occasionally. if thats all good move on to the stator output tests. you will find it quickly.
