    74 Merc 650 motor lock

Re: 74 Merc 650 motor lock Much thanks Max. I think the guy that I bought the motor from said he replaced the water pump impeller. Maybe he installed it back wrong? At any rate, I'm going to go drop the LU and have a look see. Also, can you tell what the purpose of the tab that's circled in...

    74 Merc 650 motor lock

Just purchased a boat with the above motor. I have found that i cannot seem to lock the motor. There is a spring loaded pair of hooks that clamp down over a long dowel that I think should lock but it does not. Anyone have any idea what i am missing or how the locking mechanism is supposed to...

    Running on a bad prop

I just bought a new(to me) boat. I posted some pictures on iboats yesterday and some folks said the prop looked bad. One stated they would never run a motor on a bad prop. I'm trying to judge whether or not i should take it out this weekend. The prop is damaged but i don't know how bad is...

    Old Lowrance Depth Guage

I just brought home a new to me 74 ebbtide that has an old Lowrance Depth finder. The model says LFG-305. I haven't put the boat in the water yet so I don't know if it works. Does anyone still use one of these and is mine still likely to work or should I go ahead and replace it?

    Thoughts on this boat

I'm in the market for my first boat. I am generally opposed to a tri-hull because of their ride, but I kind of like the look of this thing. Anyway, i thought I would post this up and see if I could get a general consensus as to whether or not this boat is a good buy...

    Mercury Inboard Motor Question

I'm looking to purchase my first boat. I have been looking at several different models and quite a few have mercury inboards, some that are running and some that aren't. I'm interested in the 4 cylinders because they won't drink the fuel like a larger motor. It looks like these are usually...

    Boat Resto Newbie Questions

Hello, I've had the boat bug for a while now but have not bitten the bullet and purchased one. Just window shopping. The more I look, the more I love the style of some of the older boats. I did a little research and found some good information here regarding fiberglass work, redecking, etc...

    NLA Parts

I have another thread related to a broken shift shaft assembly on my 98 mercury 40 force. I have tried to locate the part but am finding it is NLA. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I might be able to find NLA parts for Mercury?

    Mercury 40 Force... Helpppppp

I have a '98 Mercury 40 Force. What was supposed to be a routine water pump impellar replacement went south when after discovering that the shifter shaft coupling nut was siezed onto the shaft. I tried to break it loose but of course I applied too much force and broke the plastic shifting...

Mercury 40 Force shift connector siezed

I attempted to replace my water pump impeller yesterday. When I attempted to disconnect the shifter linkage between the lower and upper units, the connector would not thread upwards and appears to be either seized or cross threaded. I was afraid of breaking the shaft turning too hard. If I...

98 Mercury 40 Force not charging

I have a new battery. When at full throttle, I am not charging the battery. I have read as much as possbile but am somewhat stuck. I believe the problem to be my voltage regulator but it could be my stator. My stator has two yellow wires, and green/white and a white/green. Can anyone tell...
