The iboats forum moderators are excited to announce that at this time it appears the iboats forums posting pictures function is working once again. Though we cannot promise for how long, we're hoping for indefinitely.
I drained and refilled the LU on my '75 merc 650 (3cyl) this evening. It only took around 11oz before it came out of the top hole. Does this sound right. I've looked through my manuals and don't see a capacity listed. Is that good or is it necessary to let it set a bit and allow the bubbles...
I have a '75 merc 650 (3 cyl) with distributor. The timing belt was removed and I'm 99% sure I got it back on in the correct position as I took a picture of its orientation before I removed it. Looking through my manual, I don't see instructions on how to install it so I would be 100% sure...
I have a '75 merc 650 3 cylinder (as listed in my profile). I'm reading up on how to set the timing. One thing I have yet to figure out is the fixed timing mark. I have the timing marks on the flywheel but I don't see any fixed pointer or mark anywhere one can use as the indicator. My manual...
Just curious as to why none of the two strokes I see have any type of air filter? Is it deemed not necessary as when you are out on the water there is not much particulate matter in the air?
Does anyone on here run any type of filter anyway?
Can someone explain the function of the poppet valve to me. I been looking at it and don't get it. I thought I got it until I went to install the new baffle plate with the new poppet valve and realized that when you tighten the plate down, the poppet is pushed out as the stem seats into the...
I have two Merc manuals and neither one has the tightening sequence for my motor. I have the torque spec but not the sequence. Would anyone out there happen to have that?
My manual calls for type A loctite on my engine seals. I don't think type A exists any more. Anyone know what can be used as it's replacement and where I can get it?
Re: 1975 mercury 65hp 3 cylinder no voltage on green wire from switch box
I think we have the same motor. Does your's look like this? The wire that is cut went to my mercury switch.
Re: Advice Wanted
It kinda of annoys me when people have a thread going and somewhere down the line it gets resolved and they never come back and put the "bow" on it. So in order to live up to my own high standards. Here is the bow to this thread.
I finally got the block back from the...
I may be making too much an issue out of this but I thought I would throw the question out there and see what comes back. I plan to be putting everything back together on my merc in near future and am at the stage where I need to clean up all the mating surfaces in prep for new gaskets. What...
I recently posted a thread regarding a boat and motor i recently purchased. I had seen steam and was concerned that there may be an issue.

I decided to tackle the problem and after some hesitation began removing the bolts to get the exhaust...
Re: Overheating question
Good news and bad news. Good news is that I ran a compression test and got almost 150 on each cylinder. The bad news is that i found some sort of leak on the port side. I have attached a pic. Any idea what is going on here?
I have just bought a 74 ebbtide with a 74 merc 650 (3cyl) on it. Motor looks very clean. Boat was always garage kept and I don't think it was heavily used. I finally took it out last week and it ran well. I ran it at WOT for about 5 minutes and then brought it down to idle for a bit. I...
This is off of my 74 Merc 650 3 cyl. If you look at the top of the switch box, you will see a cut wire. I am unclear after referring to my manual but i suspect it goes to the tilt switch. Anyone know for sure what it goes to?
My prop is not in very good shape and I need to get a new one. However, i have no tachometer on my boat so i cant tell how my current one is performing. Should I just get what is called for by Mecury or do I need to do all the analysis before i buy a new one?
Re: 74 Merc 650 motor lock
Ok, I'll go check it out and report back. BTW, now I fell stupid but you were right about the motor tilt lock. Mine is a little different but here's how it works:
Re: 74 Merc 650 motor lock
I do not not have power trim (unfortunately). I was able to remove the LU and here's a picture of the cam position. I took the LU of with it in neutral. Seems to me that it may be off a hair but i'm curious as to what you think. BTW, Betsy looks nice.
