The iboats forum moderators are excited to announce that at this time it appears the iboats forums posting pictures function is working once again. Though we cannot promise for how long, we're hoping for indefinitely.
Re: 1988 Sylvan Offshore 22'
Steve , thanks for the advice on harbor freight.... I will do just that!!
Also thanks for suggesting that the floor be rechecked . I found a thick piece and measured it , it IS in fact 1/2 "
You wouldnt believe how thin it is in some places ......
So much...
Re: 1988 Sylvan Offshore 22'
foam , lots of it.. at first I was ready to cry , not wanting to scrape and remove it (been there done that before) but after I calmed down I started feeling it up... I know someone reading wont like this but...... I DONT hate this foam so far , in the bow at...
Re: 1988 Sylvan Offshore 22'
I began taking out the very front piece of the bow , careful because I also plan on tracing it on new wood... where I found out the wood.... is only 1/4 inch plywood... I was planning on using 3/4 for a solid deck , complete with glass & mat.... which will throw off...
Re: 1988 Sylvan Offshore 22'
After I got the wall out , I had to do something that pi$$ed me off! I had to literally destroy the cuddy bed frame to get it out, vinyl and all... I had to drill the rivets (Im starting to hate rivets and Im not feeling good about the ease of replacing them) ant I...
Re: 1988 Sylvan Offshore 22'
Well I gave it heck this evening, instead of feeling better...I feel kinda worse!
I First started on removing the helm and birds nest of wire from the cuddy wall , after 1 stubborn screw (stripped) I finally got it removed , It now hangs by the mass of wires...
Re: My 1972 MFG Sprint
Re: My 1972 MFG Sprint
Just thought I would swing back after almost 7 years and update on this MFG , which I gave a MAJOR overhaul with great help from this board..... anyhow 7 years later..... The boat is still in great shape , never saw a night out of the garage, has...
Re: 1988 Sylvan Offshore 22'
I let Google shopping answer my question , http://www.jmsonline.net/ had some at a price that cant be beat..+ 20 shipping :-( anyhow 3 gallons coming my way... I plan on laminating my floor and panels , also I have a HUGE roll of fiberglass mat in my garage from...
Re: 1988 Sylvan Offshore 22'
Well I woke up chomping at the bit to get the rest of this cuddy out , pouring rain wont allow it today , so instead I went on a shopping spree, all things I need of course ;-)
I planned on buying some wood for the floor and panels that need replaced first but...
Re: 1988 Sylvan Offshore 22'
I was looking around amazon , I found a nicer box that comes with a cover , and its layout I completely understand. Thinking of mounting it inside the cuddy high up on the wall behind the steering wheel area. Where its dry , AND.... where if I ever have problems I...
Re: 1988 Sylvan Offshore 22'
Let me ask you this... Say I buy this panel , and I bolt it to say the new cuddy wall under the helm. I bolt it through the 4 mounting holes.... then I connect the batterys negative terminal to one of the 2 posts on top of the panel , then connect positive to the...
Re: 1988 Sylvan Offshore 22'
Im running new leads anyhow , thinking of adding something like this , a somewhat modern fusebox , my old MFG has a thick steel plate with the old style glass fuse assembly screwed to it... this would make re-wiring simple
Before I purchase it , I will read up...
Re: 1988 Sylvan Offshore 22'
Funny how the boat was so pretty on the inside , I instantly knew the floor was soft the moment I stepped in it , but the rails and panels never even gave me a hint they were soft. Looks like the water wicked up the cuddy wall , the bottom is where its brittle , the...
Re: 1988 Sylvan Offshore 22'
Removed the control box , probably not going to use this one , Im hoping its worth something? Anyone know this brand control? Whats it worth?
Re: 1988 Sylvan Offshore 22'
I see I have to remove some rivets to get the bed / storage frame out , I was hoping to be able to remove the whole cuddy in 1 big piece , and slide it back in and screw it down after the floor , does not look like I will be so lucky. Im a little worried about...
Re: 1988 Sylvan Offshore 22'
Also quite sure the windows will need a fresh bead of the best marine sealant I can find.
I started working on the cuddy wall , I noticed how fragile it was on the bottom , rotten , brittle , I was careful to remove all the screws and had to drill 2 small rivets ...
Re: 1988 Sylvan Offshore 22'
Looks like the water leak in the cuddy was because somebody mounted something crudely , just shot screws through the dash etc... Should be no problem sealing it up dry. The foam between the ceiling panels was soaked in the areas of the screws , and the foam was...
Re: 1988 Sylvan Offshore 22'
Well I went into the cuddy and removed the vinyl covered ceiling panels and padded vinyl rails , and they were rotten to the core , I was able to remove enough to make a good template and my wife can do the vinyl and padding , just wasnt expecting it needed done...
Re: 1988 Sylvan Offshore 22'
Very happy with the fuel tanks , 20 gallons each , aluminum , also I would like to make a digital note to myself that Im sure to need later on... red wire to the center nut , black to the bracket.... for the fuel gauges i guess
After the tanks were out I started...
Re: 1988 Sylvan Offshore 22'
Well today I went outside and actually started the work, my goal today was to remove the side panels (screws / rivets) thd remove the gas tanks and seats , and start removing the floor UP TO the cabin walls , however , as you may know its never that easy. I removed...
