The iboats forum moderators are excited to announce that at this time it appears the iboats forums posting pictures function is working once again. Though we cannot promise for how long, we're hoping for indefinitely.
Tried searching and didnt find anything similar for this engine. The motor is a mercury 2004 exlpt 115 hp, s/n OT919496. The four bolts at the interface between the lower unit and the engine were removed, and it does not come off. What am i missing?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Current rig has a 115hp 4 stroke. At WOT the tach shows around 5200 RPM when properly trimmed, with 25 gallons of fuel gear and two people. The manual says that the motor should operate between 5500 and 6000 RPM at WOT.
There is currently a 3 blade 17" prop on the motor. It ventilates easily on...
Her name is SNAFU! Because we have all been there... It's always something! This is not a derogatory name, think of it as an acceptance of the inevitable. Think endearing.

Hello,
I am in the process of waiting on a new timer base for my motor. I pulled the flywheel and everything looks good under there - top main seal is in good condition, etc. When I put the new timer base on, do I need to find some place with a test wheel and o/b tank to check the timing on...
What should the tongue weight be on my 17.5' Tin boat?
It feels like its pretty heavy - probably about 180lbs. I am thinking of moving the axel forward one or two notches.

What do you guys think?
All,
I am good with the basics of painting as pe WOG's signature link. Despite him thinking he's an old dumb okie, I beg to differ. Thanks WOG for your help thus far.
I am at the stage where I need to choose a paint color. Black would be good, but a more metallic looking dark gray would be...
I brought the motor into a highly respected mechanic to do the following work:
Link/Sync the new cables that I had previously installed.

1.) Motor will not start when cold - no spark. After all...
Re: Johnson/Evinrude TnT - Prestolite vs. Showa Question
Thanks.
It looks like there is an indent in the SHOWA unit (Left) at the bottom of the cylinder where there is not on the prestolite. I wonder how reliable this drawing is? Either way i'll tear down and report.
I am rebuilding the Tilt and Trim for an '83 70hp Johnson in order to put onto my motor. It is my understanding that these TnT units fit most model years from the late 70's to early 90's. In order to purchase the correct seal kits, I need to specify if the tilt cylinder is Showa or Prestolite...

Re: 1985 Sea Nymph 175 Fish & Ski Light Rebuild
Just ordered this little puppy. I like the peace of mind of having a second battery to operate my downriggers and possibly a trolling motor without draining my main battery.
The motor has a problem with intermittent loss of spark. This only happens when trying to start the motor, when it is warm it runs like a top.
Based on advice from my local outboard repair guru, he says that my issue is probably the timer base.
How would one test a timer base on an '84...
I am in the process of trying to make a decision on what to do with two holes at the bottom of the stern of my tin boat. Previously there was a livewell aerator pump and presumably what was used as a drain. These functions are no longer needed, and I don't like having two extra holes below the...

I'm going to go with a spray in bedliner product. I expect the end result to look similar to this:
I am just wondering what thinning/reducing would have to take place in order for me to spray this product on through a HPLV paint sprayer with good results.
I realize I have to vinegar then zinc the bare aluminum spots, and scuff the rest - then degrease for preparation...
Did the leak test tonight, certainly a few loose rivets. Also, about mid-hull there is a substantial amount of water leaking out of the keel plate. What do you guys make of this? Should this be alarming or will the gluvit take care of this?
Here is the link to my restore thread...
Based on what I have been able to find for rivets, all of them that are larger than 3/16 have steel mandrels. Will these work for a hull repair being that the mandrel breaks off inside the rivet, and will rust?
What do people typically use? Where is the best place to buy?
Thanks!
Hello All!
I'm another sucker looking to rebuild my old boat.
Its been great, and I have had it since I was 16 (I'm 28). Its been great, and probably has thousands of hours on it. Its powered by an '84 or '85 Evinrude 70hp o/b. This engine has been bulletproof for me over the years. Just had...
The internal parts for my controls (mainly the warmup knob and some plastic parts) are shot. This is like what I have:
I have one of these available - off of a similar year 90hp.
In terms of the cable swing, etc. Do any of you know if this will work? I know that I do need to somehow wire a...
