I am rebuilding the Tilt and Trim for an '83 70hp Johnson in order to put onto my motor. It is my understanding that these TnT units fit most model years from the late 70's to early 90's. In order to purchase the correct seal kits, I need to specify if the tilt cylinder is Showa or Prestolite.

How can you tell what tilt ram you have? There does not seem to be any obvious markings. Is there a way to tell?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Here is a picture of the unit - yes, new end caps are on the way :)

Re: Johnson/Evinrude TnT - Prestolite vs. Showa Question

Thanks.

It looks like there is an indent in the SHOWA unit (Left) at the bottom of the cylinder where there is not on the prestolite. I wonder how reliable this drawing is? Either way i'll tear down and report.
