    St Mary's Ohio Lake

Yeah, the chop can get bad when you get a lot of boats out there, but that's something else that I think might be improved with some more depth.

    Boating YouTube channels

There's one on there that I've been following along with called AYO Fishing. If you can't tell by the name it's primarily a fishing channel, but he recently started a series of videos where he bought a tiny $3,000 trailerable houseboat to rebuild. It's been pretty entertaining.

    Boating YouTube channels

I used to do the same thing when I lived in Jacksonville, FL. There was a park on the St. Johns River a couple miles from my apartment. I used to walk down there on weekends and laugh and laugh.

    St Mary's Ohio Lake

It's got an interesting history. It was actually created as a reservoir for the Miami & Erie Canal. You're right as far as being shallow, the last chart I saw shows a max depth of 8' (at two small spots towards the middle of the lake), but it's definitely got surface area. My FIL dinged up his...

Should you buy 20 year old boat to fix up or 10 year old boat?

We “inherited” my in-laws boat…they got a newer boat so we bought theirs. It’s a 34 year old Starcraft, but they took great care of it so it is easily in much better shape than a lot of 10 year old boats.

    Engine Cover Rehab

Well she’s put away for the winter, but one of the things I want to work on in the spring is the engine cover. Top half flips up, bottom half is three sides so it can slide or flip out of the way. The wood on the top half has deteriorated enough that the hinge has gotten a bit sketchy so that’s...

Cut Holes for Improving Engine Access

Welp, I am happy to say that you guys were absolutely right. I could have sworn I looked at the engine cover and saw that it was all one piece, but I checked again and it is not. The top half tilts forward but the wooden bottom isn’t actually connected to anything so moves right out of the way...

    Winterizing Question

We are in Cincinnati, OH so it gets cold enough that we have to winterize, but it doesn’t get frigid here. I’m also an idiot and just figured out our whole motor box is actually removable as opposed to just the top half tilting so winterizing just got infinitely easier. Making sure to get all...

    Winterizing Question

Thought that’s the one that’ll flush the PS cooler…just wanted to make sure.

    Winterizing Question

Sorry, we’re still fairly new to this…which hose are you talking about that’s the raw water hose (it’s an ‘87 4.3).

    Winterizing Question

If you were to do a “standard” winterization, i.e. drain block and then pull the hoses and dump antifreeze in, could you then start the engine for a few seconds (w/o muffs) to circulate the antifreeze to any hidden spots or does filling the hoses work well enough?

Cut Holes for Improving Engine Access

Just got the boat a few months ago so this is my first time winterizing and changing the oil. Like so many things, whoever designed this thing put no thought into maintenance. The engine cover flips up but the bottom half is carpeted plywood making it a giant PITA to get to the bottom of the...

Need gas cap for 1994 Larson SEI 174

It’s an ‘87 SS201. My wife’s family had it since ‘96 and we inherited it when they got something newer. Would never guess it’s 34 years old.

Need gas cap for 1994 Larson SEI 174

Is it an oddball gas cap or something? I just had to get a new one for our '87 Starcraft cause the threads on the plastic one were shot and it looked like they were pretty standard. The old plastic one said "Perko" but this one fit perfectly....Gas Cap

Bedliner for a Keelguard Type Bow Protector (on Aluminum)?

How well does bedliner work on aluminum? The dock up at the lake a few weeks ago had wood docks but a concrete wall and the docks were not sized for a 20’ boat….and I should have done a better job of tying her up. I’d like to get something to touch up where it got a little banged up and prevent...

    1987 SS201 Specs?

How big is the fuel tank on an ‘87 SS201? It’s getting close to that time to start thinking of getting her ready for winter. FIL/PO did a great job saving paperwork so I’ve got the manuals for the motor and the generic Starcraft manual, but nothing with specific details for the boat.

    Removing an Attwood Hydro Stabilizer

Something I thought about doing is sealing up the extra holes…leave the 4 holes for the foil but fill the others…and touching it up so it looks a little better

    Removing an Attwood Hydro Stabilizer

I think I’m going to leave it off and seal up the holes. Can’t say I noticed any downside. The biggest difference I could feel was the transition to plane…not really faster with the foil, but you could definitely feel it when you were trimming up. Going to go without for a while and might see...

    Reinforcing Wood Swim Deck/Ladder

Has anyone reinforced their swim deck with some aluminum angle? I’m a big dude…just a bit over 300#. I’ve never been out of the boat once were on the water because I’m not sure about the ladder getting back in. As you can see, we’ve got the standard ladder and a Windland 3-step ladder. I can’t...

    Removing an Attwood Hydro Stabilizer

I think we might be going out tomorrow so I’d like to see how it does without the foil on. Figure it’s not a big deal if I want to put it back on…just have to remember which holes to use…and if it seems better without then I’ll fill the holes.
