Drive fluid level correct, no milky shade or metal shavings or anything. However, I have no clue what oil it is since the mechanic did it. Only thing I see that the color is sort of bluish or slightly greyish. Could yhe make of fluid cause such an impact on sound?

Following problem - there is a howling or humming sound when on plane. It's not there when you rev the engine in neutral, so probably coming from the drive, right? Back to this old issue sice I still dont have it solved. Anyway, could it be possible that it"s not the sender that is faulty but the gauge sine it shows the max reading even when the sender is unhooked? So could Volvo engineers somehow made the trim limiter to operate through the gauge?

Those trim cylinders are sometimes "sweating" when they sit untouched for longer periods. Same story with some of the motorcycle front forks - unwrap them in the spring and the shocks are sweating, take it for a spin and they are bone-dry for the rest of the season. So I suggest take a break...

Pull the plastic cover of the gearhousing, see if the cable is still attached to the linkage. If it is, is the linkage working. Go from there.

I was quoted 280 eur (thats well over 300 bucks) for the OEM for DPS-A. Also looking for the alternatives. As a sidequestion, is it possible to replace the sender without pulling the drive? I cant figure how it could but maybe there are some tricks.

Hmm, I set them so that forward straight up (blades at 12, 4 and 8 o'clock) and rear prop symmetrically in between, meaning at 2, 6 and 10, so not 33 degrees but 60 deg apart. Could that be the reson why I feel sort of vibration in the hull when driving?

Mine is 2008 4.3GXi with DPS-A and makes the same whine. Sort of like flying a small jet. Would be nice to hear a muscle car type of rumble instead but this is annoying. SX-A and DPS-A are the same for the most part and my mechanics (different places) have not pointed this out as anything out...

Neutral or not doesn't make difference since the "gearbox" is only after the U-joints.

Running the engine with drive tilted all the way up is no good. Depending on where the limit is set due to boat design but I would imagine checking the u-joints would be a good idea now. For the trim, disconnect the sensor cable (somewhere between transom and motor inside the boat) and see if...

My bet it's the tensioner. Turn off the engine, take the belt off and spin the tensioner pulley with a cordless drill or something, see if it makes noise.

Still did one more experiment - unhooked the trim sender connector and while the trim itsel is actually working the gage still shows 56. So how's that possible - sender is not even connected but gage shows constant number. IS it possible that it's not the sender but the fault is somewhere else?

Did couple of more check-ups - just to be sure even if they don't matter. Unhooked all trim pump/sensor connectors, cleaned them with contact cleaner. Went through fuses according to wiring diagram. Tested the wiring of trim switch on the remote. Result still the same. Thought of buying a new...

Could it be that the low side is clogged? Paint chips and/or ethanol gunk making the HP pump starving? I might be totally wrong...

Next time when it goes out, put a multimeter on the sender wires inside the boat (usually somewhere between back of the engine and transom. Is it still showing or out of business. I suspect water intrusion to the sender body.
