If the V4's are prone to break piston rings, then it sounds like they aren't worth shopping for. Why didn't you mention the common breaking ring issue here?

Do the Wiseco brand pistons fix this issue? Is it worth upgrading to those in such an old motor?

Checked every nook and cranny of the carburetors. Every orifice is clear. No matter what hole I spray in, spray comes out the other end. Every passage is clear. I ran copper wire through them all. The largest size that would fit depending. I even bypassed the fuel pump and gravity fed straight...

I've read threads where ones say the V4's are prone to rings breaking - catching on the cylinder walls where there's openings. . Is there anything I can do to minimize that happening? Like an additive like yamalube or mixing a stronger oil to fuel ratio, or....?

I took a vacuum tester and hooked it up to the line that goes from the fuel pump to the carburetor bowls. Pumped it up to 20 and let it sit for 5 minutes. It didn't drop pressure one bit.

Nevermind, searching testing spark plugs Google says you can't test these spark plugs with a multimedia alone, but must be tested for voltage.

I checked the ohms on my spark plugs. All 8 of them. No continuity from the threads that go in the block to the top of the spark plug that goes in the spark plug wire boot. But for the test from the top of the spark plug through to the sparking tip, I got all .12, except for one spark plug I got...

I'm still reading lots of threads learning and learning. I've seen a few threads where someone tells them to test the compression again. So this time I rented a compress tester from Napa. I got: 126, 134, 126, 128. I also moved the spark tester out from 7/16 to 1/2 inch and the spark jumps it...

It's discouraging that I can find several threads where someone asks about an issue similar to mine, the same members lending help, and the person with the issue just disappears. 😕

Monday, no matter if I haven't gotten this resolved, I'm taking it for a spin.

I ordered a shop manual from eBay today. I still think it's air/fuel related, but I'm just going to go through everything from spark to stator. I figure if I'm at 120 compression, good lower unit, and as clean as this motor is.... Might as well.

They all look like they are firing the same. None looks more discolored or less discolored than the next.

Here are the old plugs that I ran some after the seafoam. And the new current plugs for maybe the last four times I ran the motor.

I know this is an old thread, but a thread like this shouldn't close, should it? . My 1967 18 foot Holiday had a 1984 Suzuki DT75 (2-stroke) 260# outboard, and it planed easily and maxed out about 33 mph with three 200# guys. With it and my 2010 Yamaha 9.9 4-stroke the drain holes at the bottom...

I had it in a 55 gallon drum cut in half one of the runs. I'll use a drum this coming next time. I'll see how it sounds with my latest cleaning and post the video here. Probably Thursday afternoon/evening PST.
