    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

The boat is in the shop . . . . . Lots of road closures due to re-surfacing (of course now that the summer crowds are here). So, it was a bit interesting getting to the shop.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

The boat is ready to go . . . over to the re-power shop in the AM. . . In other news, I have more flooring to install, which should keep me busy while the boat is in the shop. .

    thompson 240 transom rebuild

There are lots of restoration threads that you can/should review to see how it is done. In general, don't worry about the existing holes as you will be replacing the core of the transom from the inside. The outdrive 'keyhole' will be of particular importance as that is your engine alignment...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Getting closer . . . I got the bottom painted with anti-fouling paint. . . The wiring in the bilge is pretty much done . . . ripped out a bunch of wiring that no longer had a home. Still got blowers :D . . . The gelcoat came out chalky . . . probably due to my air compressor not being up...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Progress update . . . I got the underwater areas barrier coated. AF paint to follow. . . Also, the mechanical's and wiring in the bilge are done. . . I ended up putting the main bilge pump in the exact same place as it was. Two secondary pumps are more towards the transom.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Now I am sure some have been wondering about the gap on the sides of the extension bracket. . . My plan is to put stainless steel 'straps' in those gaps which will attach to both the boat and the extension bracket. Functional and somewhat decorative. . . I have some 316 bar stock on order and...

Not really . . . more hazardous to leave it off.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Not worried about the imperfections . . . there will be time in the next off-season to make things pretty. Meanwhile . . . I checked in with my re-power guy and some of the parts for the re-power are coming later than expected, which gives me a few more days to do finishing touches. Today was...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

    I took a picture and drew a straight line along the keel. . . . not really a hook. . . maybe some unevenness . . .

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I thought that it might have a slight downward angle to it. Maybe an 1/8" of an inch . . . But I have not put a straight edge on it to check. If it does, it will be deemed a feature (stern lift) rather than a defect. :ROFLMAO:

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Gelcoat day . . . My first time spraying gelcoat  I put a coat of VE primer on a couple of days ago and today did the gelcoat. 3 layers, each done about 1 hour apart. The final coat had the Duratec hi-gloss and the surface wax. I used nearly a gallon of gelcoat and a quart of...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I got things on the helm station finished up in preparation for the re-power shop to install the Honda & Optimus stuff. Hopefully everything will fit as planned. .

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I met with the re-power guy yesterday . . . A couple of tweaks to the helm instrumentation . . . . . A perfect storm of Honda, Veratron, Optimus, and Garmin . . . it might all actually work :ROFLMAO:

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Today was supposed to be a rainy day according to the weather forecasts. So, I planned to do the electrical work, given that the boat has the camper canvas up. Of course, it was bright & sunny, but I did the electrical stuff anyway, taking a break from the block party. The...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I never liked to do drywall. Anyway . . . everyone grab your sanding blocks . . . there is a 'block party' going on at my house. :ROFLMAO:

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I just confirmed with the re-power shop that the boat is going in on June 15th. I also got some information that helped finalize (hopefully) the instrumentation layout . . . . . I bought the Veratron round gauges to replace the SmartCraft gauges from the Mercruisers. My plan is to put some...
