How do you screw into fiberglass/gelcoat without chipping?

He's drilling 9/16 holes for bolts, not for small self-tapping wood screws. In my case the drilling itself didn't cause any damage so going in reverse wouldn't help. It's the teeth of the screws lifting the gel before they 'bite' and pull in that was the issue.

    This trailer has rocking bunks

The trailer that came with my used (2000) bowrider has bunk boards that pivot on their brackets. They used nylok nuts so this might be intentional--tho I've never seen this. Everything else about the trailer is ship-shape. Should I tighten them with the boat loaded, or leave them to self-adjust...

How do you screw into fiberglass/gelcoat without chipping?

I appreciate that. If there's ever a next time I'll drill stepped pilot holes.

How do you screw into fiberglass/gelcoat without chipping?

Actually I did begin countersinking before I got to that hole. Not wide enough...not deep enough? I could see it went thru the gelcoat but maybe it just weakened it. The pilot holes I drilled for these 2 loops were close to an edge. I'm thinking the gel was thicker here than on the flats where...

    torque or angle torque

I think we found a guy who reuses TTY bolts. 😉

How do you screw into fiberglass/gelcoat without chipping?

Yesterday I added attachments for a bimini top on my bowrider. All the holes I drilled chipped a bit when driving the screw in--one of them badly, so it shows. For the NEXT time--what's the trick in preventing chips/flakes?

    torque or angle torque

Marking the head is fine. Several techs where I worked preferred to do it this way--even tho we had torque-angle digitals in every size. The wrenches are amazing IMO. Great for doing TTY in tight spaces because they keep track of the angle increments if you need to ratchet to get there in steps.

    torque or angle torque

Yep. Not high on my list of desirable torque wrenches. Same tool as Eastwood, Westward, AC Delco, + many others. All made in Taiwan by Eclatorq with very slight cosmetic differences. Still shouldn't have broken if used within it's capacity. The ones I've used & calibrated have always gone to...

    torque or angle torque

HF now has several torque-angle digital wrenches. Which one broke? (I'm pretty sure they're all rebranded tools from other mfrs)

Anyone know how to open/repair this gauge?

Good to know. A volt gauge is easy to modify... Some of the others not so much.

    Erratic tachomether

I just went thru this problem 2 weeks ago. First problem was with a new radio I put in my 25yo freshwater bow rider. The new radio worked for a day, then started freezing on the startup logo, dropping Bluetooth connections, etc. After swapping in another radio the problem returned. Then my...

    I should add a 2nd battery...

So now you're running just the one battery?

Anyone know how to open/repair this gauge?

My Amazon digital gauge arrived a couple days ago. I removed the meter face and the dead analog guts. The face I stuck to a piece of plywood using carpet tape, center-punched it and drilled a 1⅛" hole for the body of the digital replacement, using a hole saw. Next I clipped the pins off the old...

    I should add a 2nd battery...

Around 2010 or so I bought a used Ford Explorer. It had a 5.0L and after owning it a few weeks I found that of I left it for more than about 5 days it would run the battery down and not start. After dealing with this a few times I bought a cheap lithium pack from Walmart and it never failed to...

Fusion radio flaky & freezing up

Update. Two weeks and not a single hiccup from this Fusion radio. I'm now 100% sure my initial problems were related to fuseblock problems. Light chalky corrosion on some of the fuses & sockets. Not bad like the obvious green corrosion but it was enough to cause intermittent problems with this...

This Faria-Beede website is a mess of mixed signals. 5-week turn-around. $55 to repair my gauge...but...

Anyone know how to open/repair this gauge?

It's looking like my best option. I've ordered a couple different ones from Amazon that will fit in the cup--after I break out the prongs that hold in the analog movement. I think it'll be an easy project. All things considered I think this will be an improvement over original.

Anyone know how to open/repair this gauge?

Got it open. No corrosion. Nothing obviously burnt up but the wires to the meter coil are finer than hair so I probably couldn't see if it was separated anyways. I can't find a used replacement for this online. I'm sure there are other voltmeters that look different but use the same internal...
