    Q about thermostat housing seal

2000 4.3L Mercruiser. I'm replacing the thermostat. After scraping & cleaning the surfaces I installed a new O-ring, Tstat, oem plastic spacer, gasket (with metal rivets). I carefully centered the Tstat but when all stacked up the white plastic spacer sits proud of the gasket at least 1/16“...

    Testing my temp gauge

Just a quick update... My Quicksilver temp sensor measures 800 ohms at 70*F. same as the one on the boat so I guess the sensor is fine after all. Which now puts the thermostat at the head of the 'suspicion' line. This is my last weekend on the water. I'll put in a new Tstat during...

Source for bearing buddies rubber plug

The OP is describing the rubber dust seal on a Dexter axel, which makes maintenance easier than a plain steel cap.

    Testing my temp gauge

I verified power, connections and gauge operation by connecting the rheostat with alligator jumpers. Then I measured the sensor R and continuity to ground with a DMM. I don't think several hundred ohms is right so I'm waiting for a Quicksilver replacement to arrive early next week. Once I have...

    Testing my temp gauge

I thought the 'standard' sensor output varied from about 240 to 40 ohms? I bought a 200 ohm rheostat to test the gauge and wiring. At first when I jumpered the pot in place of the sensor the gauge didn't budge off the pin. I unplugged the gauge and checked the voltage on the 3 wires with a...

Restoration of 08 Avalon - need to make the right choices

I'm considering the dark brown (milk chocolate) as an accent color for the stripe below the back bolster. The original palette is too bland, IMO. Needs some 'pop'.

Restoration of 08 Avalon - need to make the right choices

I'm upgrading my 1996 18' Sweetwater for a 2008 20' Avalon LS. The seats in the newer boat are in worse condition than on my Sweetwater but I like the layout, proportions, and it's got a low-hours 60hp 4-stroke Yamaha. I'm going to have the seats & sun platform reupholstered locally and I...

    Testing my temp gauge

Yeah it's normal but loud, continuous, and real annoying. My other boat just beeps once as a self-check, then silence.

    Testing my temp gauge

Engine off, key on...annoying alarm ON.

    Testing my temp gauge

My temperature gauge hardly moves--if at all. Before I put this up for the winter I'd like to test the sensor & gauge. Can I just remove the sensor and put it in hot water? I'm guessing there will be water behind that sensor (open system). Just let it run into the bilge?

    Cars you should have kept.

They dug their own grave, then. My first brand-new car was a 1982 Dodge Omni 024 "Miser". It had the VW 1.7 & a 5-speed and was advertised to get 51mpg highway. We haven't come very far in 40+ years, have we?

    This trailer has rocking bunks

Uhhh...is Escort a trailer maker? The winch tower has an Escort Trailers sticker on it & the name is familiar. Seller may have told me it's an Escort trailer.

    This trailer has rocking bunks

I think I'll snug up the bolts so they don't move "freely", but will adjust under the boat's weight. EDIT: Can't. The bunk brackets must have bushings in there. The bolts are "ugga" tight and the bunks move freely. I guess AI is wrong again. This is designed to move like this.

    This trailer has rocking bunks

I don't really know. Sticker too faded to read. It came from the dealer with the Bayliner Capri 1850 I recently bought, hence the "Capri" on the trailer.

    Cars you should have kept.

This is a car that deserves more respect than it ever got but because it was yet another variation on the K-car chassis I think everyone wrote it off as a dud. Mine (5-speed) handled like it was on rails. Caution sign says "slow curves 35mph max" Ha! 70 minimum, not even any tire squeal. I had a...

    This trailer has rocking bunks

Before I posted I asked AI. Answer it gave was pretty much along that lines of "that is wrong, it will damage your boat, will wear out the hardware". 🤣

    Picked up a 1990 Force 50HP yesterday.

Best friend has a 67 Chevelle 396SS. Stroked to 454. Worth about $70k now. He hasn't mentioned anything about lifter issues. 😁
