    1975 Mercruiser Tilt/trim issue

Yes for leak detection UV dyes can be a life saver. I got a cheap UV light off amazon and different dyes for AF and Oil, found some leaks more easily than I would have, but you have to clean it all up with brake fluid firts. I would stand on the drive or disconnect the trim rams to see if its a...

    3.0 Mercruiser orca cooling questions

yes green marine coolant is the same thing as AF + distilled water. Any automotive green antifreeze will work fine. Might be worth testing before you just drain it. May have been changed

    1999 4.3L...

yes it can especially if the thermostat stays open. Take it out and get it good and hot for a long run. if it is cracked the oil level will rise, if not it should help cook it off. May need and oil change or two and burn it off by pushing the throttle forward

    1995 Crownline 202BR Restore

3m makes an adhesive remover for this, dont recall the part number or name. There are several ones made by others as well. Google it and you will get a bunch of threads and options like below https://store.marinebeam.com/un-hesive-3m-5200-sealant-and-adhesive-remover/

Is it an Alpha, Gen 2 Shift Assist Assembly issue?

A lot of the recomendations here are to take off the shift assist- I think @Bt Doctur has seen issues with it . My try to disco it and test. I still have mine on my 04 gen 2 never gave me an issue and shift beatifully so left it alone.

    1995 Crownline 202BR Restore

you cant use enough 5200 for something like this. Yes you want it coming out both sides and filling the hole in the hull. On my sea ray you can see 5200 squeezed out on the inside of fasteners like this. My buddy lost his glastron due to the factory screwing a swim ladder at the water line...

Is it an Alpha, Gen 2 Shift Assist Assembly issue?

you should be able to shift and alph by manipulating the lower cable with two fingers, should move that easily. If it doesnt pull the drive and look for debris or sticking swivel shaft or dragging shift cable. Manual #14 will help with this

2010 24' bayliner 245 cruiser with 5.0TKS and Alpha One

what prop is current on it and what rpm is it getting at WOT? Best is relative to what you want to do with the boat. As Scott laid out thats a big boat for that engine so pitch will be low

    FXP prop help

agree with comments above. You can put two marks with a punch on the inner splined hub and the outer ring to see if it is moving. Most likely it will not be moving. these are pressed in and over time (years ) they can slip

    Mercruiser 3.0L choke adjustment

I have also had several 2 jets- grandfathers 1966 Penn yan merc 150 hp 1965 Lemans 326 2bbl 1965 GTO has 3 of them (tripower) 1991 Sea Ray - 3.0 had a mercarb Only real difference I see is the mercarb has one mixture screw vs two.

    Carb tuning

Yeah all these carbs (Holley, AFB/Eddy, Q-jet, Rochester 2 jet) have their pluses and minuses. I have also found on both my 65 Pontiac and the boat the AFB/Weber/Eddy carbs to be really a great carb for ease of use and tuneability , especially for less experienced tuners. Anyone who tells you...

    Carb tuning

one or both throttle plates may be upside down and not closing. Are you setting idle speed with the throttle cable disconnected? Are the throttle blades exposing the transfer slot? This could add fuel that the mix screw will not control. normally this is seen on hot rod engines with big cams...

    Mercruiser 3.0L choke adjustment

The mercarb is a descendant of the rochester 2 jet so yes uses a vacuum piston in the choke element housing. Very similar to the holley electric chokes

    Carb tuning

I found the same thing with the base gasket. Your edlebrock has the same square and spread bore mounting that my intake does. There is very little sealing surface in a couple spots on the secondary side with webber/eddy carbs. I found this when installing a phenolic insulating spacer. The...

Started out as a good day on the water. 4.3 mercruiser

The TB module is either mounted to the dist or on the exhaust elbow. Both are black boxes, sometimes with a knock module. just google 4.3 delco est. there are original Delco units and aftermarket knock offs. Sierra has units that are considered good. if I was in your shoes I would look for a...

    Mercruiser 3.0L choke adjustment

choke pull off on a mercarb is inside the choke element housing. Its a piston behind the element vs a separate diaphragm with hose like a qjet or divorced choke to the op this like shows the adjustment of the choke by bending the linkage

    Mercruiser 3.0L choke adjustment

you may need to bend the linkage to get it to the correct opening amount not just adjust the element which is more for the amount of time it stays closed. Did they properly set the idle mix and speed ? In warm weather it should really not need much choke anyways if properly set up.

Started out as a good day on the water. 4.3 mercruiser

It seems to be hit or miss with the est modules , also finding an actual delco est is not as easy anymore. Mich Motorz no longer carries actual Delco for the 4.3 and 5.7, only the 3.0. When I bought my repower partial engine from them in 2015 they normally supply them with the EST. I had them...

Started out as a good day on the water. 4.3 mercruiser

friggin auto correct... I meant the Merc TB (thunderbolt) is a great system, Merc just screws the owner by NLA or insane ignition module prices... so when the module dies a actual Delco Est (not cheap knock offs) is a good relatively drop in replacement. Yes the trigger sensor is not a bad...

Started out as a good day on the water. 4.3 mercruiser

Why would you replace the ignition system if it’s working? The atB is a great system until the ignition module needs to be replaced $$$. Then typical replacement is a delco est. this isn’t any better except module rEllacement cost. Both are OEM quality systems.
