How to run twin 5.0s from portable outboard tanks

Also, I picked up a portable combustible gas/vapor meter, these can be used to check for gas vapor fumes, as well as propane and nat gas. You might want to check around carefully before doing anything.

How to run twin 5.0s from portable outboard tanks

I did that for testing last year, I would also suggest putting a shut off valve on the fuel line between the outboard tank and the engine fuel pump, just in case. Make sure the lines are safely routed as well.

2005 Mercruiser 5.0L MPI (bravo 3) suddenly started overheating

What temp is your thermostat? If a 160 it is going to run from about 160 to 175, the latter being seen after you come off plane but it should cool down a little lower after coming plane and idling for a few minutes You can do a few tests to narrow down the casuse: 1) look up the spec for the...

    PSA for inboard gas owners.....

When/If I have to replace the tank, I plan on adding them, and re-glassing the coffin.

    MCM 7.4 oil

I'd be interested just to find out what additives are included in the FCW certification for marine oils, that are not in automotive oils, it seems that you can do virgin or used oil analyses and get a lot of information but not about additives. This information is "proprietary" I guess. They...

Dark colored drive shaft and black looking grease

For splines I am still using Evinrude Triple Guard which is an excellent great for that purpose, it does come out darker when I pull the drive in the fall but not black. In the gimble bearing and ujoints I use Lucas Marine (blue, same color as Triple Guard) and there the grease stays bluish...

    PSA for inboard gas owners.....

Certainly true. I think a good idea is for the fuel tank coffin so to speak to have vents on the front and rear bulkheads, that helps also with drying out any moisture.

    PSA for inboard gas owners.....

Gas fumes are a significant hazard for gas inboard owners. In addition to sniffing before starting up, proper fueling practices and use of the blower, it's a good idea to have a gas vapor detector installed on your boat. I went one step further, I got a hand held combustible gas detector...

    MCM 7.4 oil

Yep it's not that much money when you look at it that way. I can say after using the Merc Syn Blend 25/50 under the valve covers in my engine looks like new despite salt water use and 6 month storage outside in a damp climate. The engine is often covered with condensation to the point that any...

    MCM 7.4 oil

Scott you forgot the Merc top of the line Merc 25/50 syn blend it used to be $52, now it's $66, so it's up there with the Amsoil & Penrite

    MCM 7.4 oil

That’s what I thought So he’s got some good choices. The VR-1 is a bargain like half the price of the Merc 25/50 syn blend, that’s what I’d use and will probably switch to when I use up the Merc oil I have

    MCM 7.4 oil

Ok first find out if the engine had flat tappets. If not & you have a roller cam no real issue with zinc. But if you have flat tappets here are some choices: Merc/Quicksilver 25/50 syn blend, I used this and did an oil analysis & it has 1300 ppm of both Zinc & Phosphorus Valvoline VR-1 20/50...

How do I safely remove anti-siphon and intake line?

Yep look for a thin hex wrench for that. You don't want to strip that out in the plastic tank.

    outdrive question

Just make sure it doesn't pop out of the hole (lol). I run an adapter I made up to the stat housing which will work if your engine has a drive mounted water pump (no impeller on the engine). If you have a Volvo or Bravo with the impeller on the engine, you must connect the water source back at...

    1995 Crownline 202BR Restore

Can't wait to see this when it's done! Better than a new boat could be built, like a number of the rebuilds that people have done on here. My boat was burgundy/red, no matter how many times I cleaned and polished and waxed, it went back to pink in a few months. Finally gave up with that in 2012...

    Stuck oil filter

Not sure if that's so, here is what the oil filter mounting pad looks like on a 4.3, different than the V8s.

    Stuck oil filter

I was thinking the same thing, fab up something that looks like a pin wrench like the kind you use to remove the cap on a trim cylinder.

    Trailer tires.

As I have posted before I have not had any trouble with Kenda Bias ply K550 tires, the first few sets came from Taiwan, a spare came from China and the last pair I bought came from Vietnam. All were about the same quality wise. A decent tire for local towing, which is all I do. If I were doing...

How do I safely remove anti-siphon and intake line?

I searched around on other boating websites as well (esp The Hull Truth) and the consensus is to get rid of that screen. My original pick-up tube and the one I replaced it with didn't have screens. The only drawback to this (as long as you have a proper water separating fuel filter) is that your...
