    1983 Blue Fin 16’ Resto

Good news! While removing the rotten bow support I found the capacity plate. Says I can go to a 90. Hmm……16’ boat with a 90….hmmm…. I will need to adjust both consoles for the new windshield so…how would you handle this mess? Anyone got a good source to repop one of these?? Because to put it...

Other side done. Gave it a couple passes with the sander followed by lots of wipe downs with shop rags/acetone. Then a few coats of primer then color. Gonna have to do a small section of console in the EZ Poxy Blue Ice to see what it’s going to look like.

It’ll get from point A to point B. As a temp, I wouldn’t lose sleep over it knowing the 50 was making a return.

    1990 Tracker Pro-17 Aluminum boat

To put it another way…your boat is 36 years old. Chances are very good that at least one if not more shade tree Bubba’s uttered “hold my beer” while “fixing” an electrical problem. So even if such a diagram existed, chances are really low that it still pertains to your boat. Best advice is to...

    1981 Springbok 18' Restoration/Renovation

You could simplify that a touch by omitting the timer and just use one of these to drive an air stone/bubbler… https://www.aquariumcoop.com/collections/aquarium-air-accessories/products/aquarium-co-op-air-pump Having too many aquariums running to count, your fish want oxygen exchange which...

    1983 Blue Fin 16’ Resto

Coat #1 last night. Coat #2 followed then I removed the masking as I need to flip the panel over, re-clean, etch, then paint. Need to eventually measure for the window support bar. Then purchase replacement pair. It didn’t come with any, there is a single screw hole where one should be, and...

    1983 Blue Fin 16’ Resto

Painted. Probably from 70’s or early 80’s based on the flat glass, side wings and visible screws. Most likely off a glasser. My HF sander with 220 made short work of what was sticking up. Acetone was lifting the remnants of the black paint and what I presume to be red oxide primer. It’s set in...

    1983 Blue Fin 16’ Resto

It got alot of the loose stuff off. You know the stuff a 3yr old finger painted on? Yeah that stuff. There were a few spots though that were actually adhered and that’s what is causing the issue. I was trying to go gentle so as to not scratch up the aluminum channel too much. Apparently I need...

    1983 Blue Fin 16’ Resto

Started the tedious task of breaking down the “new” front windshield for paint. Got a couple answers to my previous questions… My oldest was 100% correct in that there was foam weatherstripping between the front and side panels where the (3) philips head screws joined the parts. Looked to be...

    1983 Blue Fin 16’ Resto

It is what it is. Until I hit the lottery and move out into the country. I have 0 space on my city lot to build. Pretty much on my checklist before I switch gears to getting our main boat ready for the season…. *remove/replace first keel roller on trailer as it’s only partially held on by the...

    Aluminum boat leaking

I’d leave the boat strapped to the trailer and dunk the boat at the nearest launch. Let the weight of the trailer pull the transom down. Then check to see where it is coming in. If it’s not found, is it possible the splashwell or drains are letting water in? Or possibly a loose rivet hidden...

    1983 Blue Fin 16’ Resto

Fender mockup. Used 1x2 pvc trim cut to 5” long as a spacer on the stock brackets…cause mainly I’m lazy and don’t want to try to remove them. There…I said it :) Going to use ss buttonhead bolts and nylock nuts to hold everything together. Admiral has relented on the lack of striping on the...

    1983 Blue Fin 16’ Resto

You mean I’m supposed to keep the trailer attached to the boat when I launch? ;) I found a place that will direct print in Carbon Fiber or other. Fairly cheap too. Q: the gaskets on the window frame where the side frame meets the front frame (3 screws in the front frame secure it to the...

    1983 Blue Fin 16’ Resto

Weekend progress. Got the outer side of the rails and most of the tops in blue. Pain doing it with aerosol (seems its always windy) so going to switch to quart & paintbrush for everything that remains. Up next are fenders. Admiral says no to striping trailer or putting Calkins back on it. May...

3/4” round marker…the little dot ahead of the wheel. https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Lights/TecNiq/TN72RR.html As for the boat…it’s a father/sons project. My oldest can get his boaters cert next month so…yes, this boat will probably be in their hands for long after I’m gone. One of the...

    1983 Blue Fin 16’ Resto

May not look like it but left turn signal/brake, 3/4” marker in front of the tire, and marker up near the winch stand are wire in. Ran out of day light so couldn’t get to the other side. My youngest isn’t a fan of the 3/4” marker. When I tested it he asked if I was trying to blind him as it was...

    1983 Blue Fin 16’ Resto

Right now I think the transom is OK. It ends above the floor and after yanking on the outboard with the tilt locked in the upright position the transom showed no movement whatsoever. I’ll let the marina make a final decision once I get to the point where I’m ready to be concerned about a motor...
