1990 Evinrude 60 Rough Idle and Bogging

could it be piston skirts are shot, making it impossible for fuel/air in the correct amount to be drawn in? if the fuel pump both in the OMS and conventional are working and not leaking, thats the only other thing left here, save for not enough float drop. as you know, compression is only 50% of...

1984 johnson 90hp carb leaking fuel out air cleaner

don't worry... the the 3 cyl i did this fall had me flummoxed as well. that one has 3 (yes, 3) dowl pins to align... 2 for the crank journals and 1 for the upper crank bearing. i've done a few of these powerheads before, but for some reason this one got me. finally, i took a pencil and marked...

Question about parts that aren’t being manufactured anymore

its for holding timing, and for small timing adjustments at idle. i'm sure you could easily get it to run without that screw!

Upper Water Tube Grommet Replacement 6hp 1985.

it all depends on how the adapter flows water. some need sealer, some don't. if it didn't have any, it probably goes on dry, but im not at my shop otherwise i'd have a look in the manual. i'd stop using the aftermarket manuals myself. i did use one to prop up a workbench, and its still there.

Charging Issue on 1988 Johnson 90HP

come to think of it... the solid purple just goes on the terminal strip not connected to anything else. the purple/white is for the primer. interested to hear how this wire provided power?

Upper Water Tube Grommet Replacement 6hp 1985.

i guess the leak is playing tricks... might look like its coming from one place but is really in another! i'm sure once you get it back toghether all will be well. some of those gaskets go on dry, some with sealer so be sure to read the manual. i think that one does need sealing compound if i...

    1993 evinrude 90hp v4 issues

the grommets and t stats are in that housing. you have to remove the lower motor pan bolts to get enough room, although i've gotten them out without even doing that with a long flex-head ratchet. the cooling hoses need to be popped off as well, but this work is an absolute must!

    1993 evinrude 90hp v4 issues

i see no mention of the water pump, thermostats and poppet valve grommets. that stuff all needs to be in tip top shape! what model/brand of boat is it, and what prop is on it?

Upper Water Tube Grommet Replacement 6hp 1985.

i had this happen on an 88' model last summer. someone used the wrong sealer on the gasket. be sure to clean the mating surfaces really well. use a razor blade tool to scrape off the big stuff, then a good gasket scraper for the smaller stuff. then wipe off with alcohol, or it will certainly...

    1993 evinrude 90hp v4 issues

usually the starboard side runs warmer, since the head is higher up and gets water last. i'd take the head off the port side and make sure the deflectors and passages are clear

Charging Issue on 1988 Johnson 90HP

yes sounds like the power coils to me, which means new stator. if the wires aren't corroded or chafed, the short is inside the coils somewhere. you can do a ground test with a digital meter.

Charging Issue on 1988 Johnson 90HP

the stator uses power coils to pump out the juice you need. 12v at the strip is what is needed, so no issues there. how did you get the 20v figure? there isnt a test for those power coils that i'm aware of accept for the newer 60 degree motors, so maybe you were testing the brown/brown yellow...

    fuel restriction alarm...maybe?

you will need to hook up a low-pressure guage in the fuel line after the OMS pump to see what PSI it's got. Its in the manual... the steps to check it and specs for that motor's fuel pressure. also make sure the switch at the motor and on controls isn't shorting out anywhere.

Question about parts that aren’t being manufactured anymore

a 1996 70 2 stoke lists that part # for the nut. fits inside the adjuster so the spring has something to push against. i'm not near one of my motors that has it to take a look see. i use the parts book.
