1984 johnson 90hp carb leaking fuel out air cleaner

i would never buy those cheapo aftermarket ones after a customer brought me a 200hp that it took about 4 flywheel teeth out the bendix slammed so hard! those starters are really really easy to rebuild with new brushes and springs. kits are $10-$15 to get them spinning like new. i use gun...

Johnson J90TLCNB (1982 Johnson 90 hp with power tilt and trim) Timing Advance Specifications

do all the coils look to be in good shape, OHM out ok, and have good clean grounds? if it still misses, i'd redo the carbs then look to further ignition tests and pull flywheel to have a good look at condition of stator

Stuck at MAX revs 2000 50HP Johnson

seeing the pic, i thought you had backed the cam roller away from the throttle cam! wow. but did you follow the factory synch n link to a T? these are very sensitive to synchronization. all linkages have to be the exact length of what they say in the manual. i can tell you by the pic that the...

Stuck at MAX revs 2000 50HP Johnson

is it possible the cam lever the throttle lever is attached to is all jacked up, but the throttle cam is at idle? the timing must be advanced, but the fuel part isn't otherwise if both were like that, it would explode to redline with a touch of the key

Stuck at MAX revs 2000 50HP Johnson

what about a bad pack or sensor coil? could that cause it? if the timing advance is all the way to idle, and the throttle butterflies are closed, what else could it be besides a random nitrous bottle stuck open haha. these don't have the center ring magnet for the timer base like larger motors...

    60 DEGREE vapor seperator function?

right not just for EFI motors with injectors. So basically it acts as a fuel return system like in a 4 stroke going by the definition. so it separates the fuel vapor and fuel get returned/recirculated to the vapor tank so it can re-introduce fuel back into the vapor pump?

    60 DEGREE vapor seperator function?

right kinda like a big carburetor. thanks! i understand it's function, just curious as to why they went with that setup. maybe to somehow add additional fuel faster for better throttle response? i mean the throttle response is lighting fast with these, but probably has more to do with the carb...

    60 DEGREE vapor seperator function?

Been thinking about this, and was wondering why the 60 degree eagle motors have a vapor separator, while the crossflows and 90 degree loopers dont? something to do with the carbs on the 60 degree motors feeding directly to the intake ports? just trying to understand why the engineers put one on...

    Johnson 115 v4 60 degree

i have serious doubts it's the leaf plates/reeds. on those motors, it is certainly possible to develop an air leak between the plastic reed/leaf plate housing and the block, but not common. what is common on these you ask? having great compression, but poor leakdown aka the piston skirts being...

    Johnson 115 v4 60 degree

the hesitation sounds like improper synch n link, with the cam roller smashed up against the throttle cam, letting additional fuel in before spark is able to advance. follow the factory manual's procedure, and make sure the timing is correct (need the v4/v6 easy timer to do it properly).

Tell me about my 1980 70hp Evinrude E70elcsa

looks fine to me transom-wise. thats about were you want the cavitation plate to be for overall fishing/pleasure cruising. could certainly raise it up to the top bolt hole, but holeshot would suffer slightly. also, it looks like a 20'' transom, not a 15''. not many 15ft and larger boats were...

Best Method for loosening stuck bolts.

its scary even those adapter gaskets weld themselves to aluminum! Lucky us i guess. finishing up an xp-100 rebuild project. powerhead adapter gasket was so welded on i had to stand on the gearcase hanging from engine hoist and hit it with a rubber hammer to get it free. she popped off hard. good...

    1990ish Evinrude 6hp not idling

hey if you want it to last a loooong time, use synthetic oil. it stops corrosion in its tracks, and provided 2x the wear protection. you get what you pay for in this case 100%. i like the klotz premix, or royal purple. and gas goes bad in a month now unless you are lucky and have a non-ethanol pump.

    Evinrude or Johnson ??

come on atleast change the impeller while your in there after that work. those gearcases are heavy when doing by yourself! i like piece of mind, personally. plus you are up in clean freshwater country... probably wont have to do another one for 5 years:)

    1990ish Evinrude 6hp not idling

i will say again i've had a bunch of motors with cracked body covers and most had to be replaced so you might take a look at it again if that flex tube part #0331740 doesn't fix it or it still runs strangely. and unfortunately no, you can't glue them back together unless you get it perfectly...
