    99 Johnson 50hp 2cyl? Any good?

the 56ci motors had the grunt, especially the oval port ones 1994 and up. the 49's were never that strong out of the hole, especially the 75's. im not sure why they even sold 75's to the public unless they were on a boat that was under 500 lbs. im a diehard OMC guy, but last summer got a Suzuki...

    Minimum compression on 9.9hp 1986.

ehh i've had a few of these in the low 100psi range that were a bear to start on a crisp morning. after a bore job, compression was up around 125-130 and start on half a pull. easy to forget why they sold so many of these new... ran so nicely.

1996 130HP Evinrude PowerPack test question

fyi the temp switch test isnt simply if its opening and closing. they key is at what temp? of course the next step here would be (provided you are positive the motor isnt overheating and have checked condition of the thermostats) to DISCONNECT and ground the white wire at the pack.

    Only Running on One Cylinder

unfotnuneatly running it without thermostats is not an option. if its not cooling properly with it in, replace the poppet valve grommets. did you try a new thermostat and check it to make sure its opening at 143 degrees with warm water? old ones get sluggish and many times wont fully open until...

    Need help 1989 100hp johnson GT100

just did one of these this year... 135 PSI on a fresh rebuild .030'' over. I agree... heads need to come off. both of the starboard side rings on this one i rebuilt were missing their bottom rings!

    Only Running on One Cylinder

Sorry but getting back to your original post: you put epoxy where? And RTV has no place on an outboard... you didn't put any on the intake manfold gaskets right because those go on the same way you took em off... bone dry. Just checking to make sure you didn't plug any holes needed for bearing...

70s 9.9 won't start or idle in Neutral?

"sluggish"... would that be in neutral? it has an overrev protection mechanism in neutral so you cannot get it to rev past 1/3 throttle or so. the hard starting , after everything has checked out, is most certainly due to worn piston rings, making it impossible for the motor to suck in a large...

    9000 ft altitude jetting

i'd go down 3 sizes. push the primer in at WOT and if it bogs down right away, good to go.

    1986 johnson 8hp

its simply a brass nipple with an angled hole right into the intake manifold. there are 2 major 0-rings inside the primer that get old. very easy to replace so its not so stiff/leaking. the issue here is if the primer leaks, it will effect idle quality.

70s 9.9 won't start or idle in Neutral?

the points are super easy to set. i'd try running it first to see how it goes, and if it runs terribly, then do points and oil the wicks. if its hard starting when cold, turn the slow speed idle needle out 1/8 turn (counterclockwise) then adjust when warm.

    1986 / 1989 120-140hp OMC ignition differences

the 86' is a completely different block than the 89'. 86' is a 1.8 liter that had carburetion issues, the 89' is the much improved and more powerful 2.0 liter big block. accept for carbs and heads, everythng should swap over ignition wise.

1985 Evinrude 185, 2 stroke, Engine shut off at idle (help)

my guess is as suggested above: motor got hot. REALLY HOT! those compression #'s are not good. maybe you get lucky and it was some water in the heads or fuel, but not looking good. pull heads.

    65hp evinrude no power

sounds like the #3 cylinder has shot skirts... cannot pull enough fuel/air mix in. i've done 1/2 dozen of these this year, including the 2 cyl looper versions and after a bore/hone job, they idle perfectly with plenty of power. you'd be amazed what a complete rebuild can do... shows you how...

    Prop shaft run out spec?

tip it upside down and leave it there for an hour. anything comes out, you know what to replace. the driveshaft seal and shift shaft seal and gasket are most prone to failure, both very easy to replace.
