Johnson 150 v6 leaking gas at idle

One thing to note: the recirculation lines that feed top and center crank bearings BEHIND the starter can crack and fall off/leak. i always drop the starter (leads still connected) and check to make sure they are secure and rubbery. if one or both fall off, it will run like crap and not lube the...

First start of oil injected 2 stroke after sitting for 4 years

the motor can and will idle for about 3-5 minutes with no load on full carb bowls in most cases. draining raw gasoline so it doesnt get splattered all over the crank would be a wise move. as would spraying fogging oil into the motor (ignition off) as you crank it to get extra lube in there. 75:1...

    1991 60hp Johnson Issue

did you go through the carburetors and make sure the throttle cam roller isn't touching the cam and has its clear outer sleeve in place? these motors don't like to be out of synch! is the primer bulb firm or does it go flat?

    $50 150hp Gambling project (pics)

i will say a guy dropped off a 1996 3 liter 200hp looper last fall for free. said i could have it. needed a couple coils and a timer. runs great.

    1996 Johnson 150 no spark

you will need a DVA adapter for $25 on ebay and your in business. takes 30 min, max to find out if its the sensor, charge coil, or pack. rule out ignition coils on a non-sparking motor for now but as suggested above the service manual will walk you through it. don't bother with resistance tests...

Johnson Evinrude 90 HP (2001) misfires

are you 100% sure there is no water in the fuel? if there is and it has a canister type filter, they can get full of water, idle great but when fuel vacuum rises, it starts to "sip" water off the top with the fuel.

    `97 Fast Strike 150 trim/tilt issue

as suggested do a complete OEM water pump at some point soon. good practice and don't forget these motors were computer designed ie. very thoughtfully laid out. removing the side lower cowlings makes access a breeze for anything you need to reach.

    1948 Evinrude 3.3hp carb

i wonder if you could get a 2.3/3.3hp carb from the 80's/90's to work by fabricating an adapter. that thing looks like a nightmare to get parts for!

Persistent leak with paper gasket and form a gasket #2

the water jacket covers always warp. i put them down on a hard surface and smack it with a hammer to get it strait. learned this from an OMC master tech a few years ago. works like a charm as long as its under .004''.

Difference between 1989 and 1992 throttle bodies on v4 looper

the new style intake manifold first appears in 1995 with the 130hp, along with the more simplified carbs without the idle air orifice, different pistons and rods, and different block. all i can tell you is it made a big difference in smoothness, especially at idle, and quite a bit more power. if...

Need engine rebuild kit 94-96 johnson/evinrude 150 ocean runner. 60 degree

last summer, on 2 different sets of 2 cyl looper pistons, the rings were sticking quite badly. no, i know the top ring has a 7 degree taper so those werent mixed up or upside down. the ring grooves were cleaned, so it was a defect. sent back twice. on the 3rd set, rings were nice and loose. did...

    Old Outboards ????

as mentioned the issue with price is you can have one that supposedly "runs great 3 seasons ago" for the same price as a maintained one. I rarely pay over $100 for a small motor as 90% of them need going through anyway. the 3 cyl 50-70hp motors i rarely pay over $200, some with power trim. the...

Need engine rebuild kit 94-96 johnson/evinrude 150 ocean runner. 60 degree

I've had ZERO issues with Vertex pistons. cannot say the same about WSM im afraid. I'd give the USA distributor a call, and ditto for Racer's recommendation of Bill at Mastertech maxrules.com

    Losing a cylinder

literally only 2 things needed for spark under flywheel. those being the charge coil and sensor coil. both take 5 minutes total tops to test with a DVA meter. if one of those components are bad, buy a new one from CDI. if both are in spec, replace the power pack. done.

    Minimum compression on 9.9hp 1986.

interesting. they did change the head a few times. never peeked into one of that vintage. actually doing a 1982 one tomorrow. just got the block back from Jay's. had 105psi and 115psi. even with a clean carb and strong spark she was a ***** to start and noisy
