    1989 Evinrude 120 HP looper - Re-manufactured Power Head

you can see the timer base, and know how it functons correct? if its not advancing properly, fix whats binding. now, the timing. did you set the timing pointer correctly? the tmer base has to be all the way forward, so give it full throttle briefly, then back it off 3/4, the timing should still...

    Evinrude 85 hp question

how do you know the carbs are clean? those idle jets are mighty small and numerous on that motor.

    1989 evinrude 140hp low compression

hmm. all 4 coils voltage tested with power pack primary leads attached? i would think that this point you are looking at a stator replacement. make sure the center timing magnet hasn't shifted under the flywheel, but that usually effects all RPM. disconnected rectifier and retested?

    Losing a cylinder intermittently ‘86 50hp

I was actually referring to how a stiff wire can easily change the profile of the holes, but your objection makes sense too!

    Outboard Painting

Well i took pretty much everyones advice and the half dozen or so cowlings i've done this winter came out great. I did learn the power of sanding... getting that surface smooth, applying primer, sanding again gets the paint to pop. i tried clear coat, but it seems to me if the paint isn't really...

    Losing a cylinder intermittently ‘86 50hp

i would highly recomment NOT running any wire through the tinly idle circuit holes. if you think they are dirty, just flip the carb over and spray some cleaner over the holes and watch to see if the fluid dissapears. if it doesnt, remove the core plug and blow it out. also, DO NOT use the Seloc...

    Tohatsu 9.9 d2 ignition timing

those 18's are complete animals! got one that sat since 2001 a couple years back for $150. thing was ALMOST seized, but let her soak in some oil and carefully freed her up. mouse chewed CDI wires, so got a new one. New impeller, carb clean , t stat. thing starts 1st pull, and is more powerful...

1984 johnson 90hp carb leaking fuel out air cleaner

depending on the year, the warning horn should sound when turning the ignition to ON. that lets you know it's working. thats assuming you have an OEM control box with the horn baked into it. the older ones (i think early 80's and below) didn't have that feature but someone can jump in here on...

    Johnson 175 bad compression

i second some pics of the damage. pretty easy to tell if it was a no-oil situation. if a couple cylinders are undamaged=good bet it wasn't lubrication that did her in

    Oil injection ports dt65

i'd drain the carbs and fuel lines and do a 50:1 premix. run motor normally and see if it bleeds itself.

    Another VRO Question

ah makes sense to me! so if the limiter gets stuck open and causes pressure spikes, would that tear the air pump diaphram and over - oil because of the volume increase (air)?

    Losing a cylinder intermittently ‘86 50hp

oh makes sense... simply allows the air pressure to flow one way, and not the other. like a backflow preventer in plumbing. i stand corrected!

    Another VRO Question

what happens when it isn't functioning properly? just won't pump much volume?
  16. ct1762@gmail.com

    Another VRO Question

yes that could be the pulse limiter fitting not closing properly. its a really delicate little valve. if its open=too much air= too much oil if im not mistaken

    1989 evinrude 140hp low compression

corrosion should never be INSIDE the motor! make sure you find out why it failed. check to be sure all linkages and cam roller is intact. if it's missing, can give it too much spark and not enough fuel at idle to midrange= hard on the pistons.

    Losing a cylinder intermittently ‘86 50hp

i'm guessing idle circuit/s have some gunk going on. only takes 15min to have your answer! as racer said, compression 1st.
