1973 18 hp evinrude Driver Coil test

i've had decent luck with those cheapo aftermarket pumps... just be careful not to over-torque the mounting screws as they will leak. but a rebuild kit is fine, too. just takes more labor as the new replacement pump is same price or cheaper.

    gearcase interchange 225 johnson

so you are saying driveshaft height will be off? i've got props for days, so not worried about gear ratio. i do see the v4 and v6 looper driveshafts are the same part #'s for 2001... should be ok?

    gearcase interchange 225 johnson

has anyone run into installing a v4 looper 15 spline gearcase onto a 3.0 v6 motor? i've got a 1993 225 johnson ocean runner with a newly bent prop shaft, but a spare parts motor 2001 135hp v4 johnson (v6 15 spline case). the part #'s for the driveshafts are different, but look identical. any...

    1999 Johnson 50 j50pleea shift rod height?

racer are these different in regards to needing to shift vs. the older style 2cyl loopers? just did an 84' powerhead swap and gearcase, and could easily get it into FNR without turning the propshaft... forgot if the newer 89' and up needs a rotating propshaft?

    1999 Johnson 50 j50pleea shift rod height?

hmm. as mentioned these gearcases arent the strongest. but no worries... you say now it wont go into reverse with it off is that correct? it helps to spin the prop counterclockwise to get it to slip into gear... some motors will only shift properly when the driveshaft is spinning too, mostly...

1984 Johnson 60hp shift rod adjustment height

    1999 Johnson 50 j50pleea shift rod height?

how exactly are you measuring shift rod height? it needs to be in NEUTRAL for the measurement. i have an aluminum rod that I use... all pre-marked. I also do it in MM. 21''=533.4mm. then get calipers and measure the remainder in MM (or inches if thats easier for you). there is a leeway built in...

    1985 Mercury 25xd starting issues

i am taking your advice here... checking to make sure the primer is functioning and the linkages are in the correct place. I had asked if anyone knew the correct settings, but I cannot see that that question was answered unless you happen to know what they are.

    1985 Mercury 25xd starting issues

excuse me yes the idle screw is about halfway in. I asked if anyone has the correct linkage adjustments to get everything set up properly. ill wait till next week to get my manual. will need to take off the carb and confirm the primer is working as well.

    1985 Mercury 25xd starting issues

primer working, yes timing gets pulled forward when the knob is pulled. i can push the primer down with a flat screwdriver without the primer knob and can hear and feel resistance/fuel going through the carb. as mentioned idle screw had to be about 3 turns out... wouldnt idle anything under...

    1985 Mercury 25xd starting issues

No because I don't have my shop manual. its a tiller rope start. Previous owner made a mess of the linkages. got it in on trade kinda deal. i have a 1981 18hp and roughly copied the setting for that one. As long as the throttle plate is closed, and it has adequate timing it should just fire...

    1985 Mercury 25xd starting issues

Rebuilt the carb (ultasonically cleaned) with a new OEM quicksilver kit. Looked flawless after I was done. New coils and plugs/wires. The motor takes about 5 or 6 pulls to start when cold, and idles at about 1800rpm. initially on starup, it idles ok around 1100 rpm (on hose no backpressure), but...

How to restore Factory Timing, 1983.

did you check the armature moving correctly as suggested in my earlier post?

What does the choke do on a Suzuki EFI??

any EFI motor that i'm aware of uses an electric fuel pump to pump fuel in, thus priming the motor upon activation. the ECU probably bumps timing up a few degrees automatically when the temp sensor tells it it's cold. could be fouled plugs, or clogged injectors too.

Johnson J90TLCNB (1982 Johnson 90 hp with power tilt and trim) Timing Advance Specifications

ah good observation! Which is why you launch the boat, timing light ready to go, and do the synch n link in the water, with the cam roller loosened and away from the throttle cam, and of course throttle cable disconnected. then do the idle speed, and once that's about 650rpm in forward, adjust...

    88 Johnson 25 won’t rev

i thought he was talking about a 71' 40hp. Which i believe did have an adjustable high speed needle, like the older big twins or could be mistaken?

    88 Johnson 25 won’t rev

is the carb butterfly opening horizontal at full throttle? armatur plate advancing all the way? the high speed needle... behind it everything clean?

How to restore Factory Timing, 1983.

there is an armature stop tab that needs to freely butt up against the rubber high speed stop under the flywheel. these can have really stiff leads over the years, prohibiting it from advancing all the way (and back again when slowing down). check to make sure its smooth and freely moving the...

86 Johnson 50 hp stalls at low throttle

if its stalling, it is indeed most likely the idle stop screw not adjusted for proper rpm in forward gear. I find 700 rpm in forward gear on the water is ideal. stops low speed stalling issues, but still easy on gearcase.
