    Yes. There are only two leads coming from the motor. So am I correct in my assumption that the relay switches the +/- polarity to make the trim motor spin in either direction?

The boat is up on a lift at my dock, but I can't quite reach the motor. So I'm gonna need to pull it from the water in order to get it removed. I'm not sure...

    I used two heavy leads, straight from the two battery terminals. I connected those two leads to the two wires coming off the motor. And I tried it with both polarity combinations (switching the + and -). I assumed that should make the motor spin in different directions. But the motor didn't move...

    Yes. I used two leads straight from the battery. And I remember trying the polarity both ways as well. No motor movement with either orientation...
