    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Yes, excited about the budget fix . . . I also saved $1,900 by ordering silver instead of white.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

To get 350 HP, you have to go to the V10 . . . Top of the V8 line (600 ish lbs) is 300 HP.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Yes, there is about 2,000 lbs of buoyancy in the extension-bracket. Per the analysis the N.A. did, the hull sits with a very slight positive trim. Between the extra weight of the engines and gear ( I mean beer  ), the boat should be around 1˚ positive trim.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Actually these engines are heavy, so the overall weight will come out about the same. The Suzuki 350 HP would have been 747lbs, the Mercury 350's would have been 720lbs. These Hondas are 776lbs. (each)

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

This is what's happening for the engines . . . . . Honda BF350's AUDA/AUCDA Optimus 360 Joystick system They are big, but rarely has it ever been recommended to get a smaller engine when it comes to boats :ROFLMAO: . . . I just got back from the re-power shop, having placed the order...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Wow . . . you would think they would put their best foot forward. I did talk to someone about a pair of used Suzukis (2021). Both gear cases have been replaced under warranty/recall sort of issues. I think it is all a crap shoot as to how reliable the engines are (or not).

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

In the 300+ hp range, I don't think there are leftovers. The re-power craze has gobbled them up like bacon & fries.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

The Admiral has been busy doing make-overs on the bathrooms. Fortunately there is one bathroom recently re-done so we have a place to :poop: Her commitment to me, so as not to distract from my boat bracket building, is to do most of the work herself. Still, I find myself being a home...

    Calorifier question?

You might need a right-angle fitting for the hose that connects to the crossover casting.

    Calorifier question?

Here is a picture . . . not the easiest thing to see. The lower hose is on the re-circulating pump and the upper hose is on the underside of the crossover assembly. There is probably a plug in there now, but it gets a 90˚ fitting to connect the hose. Just above the location is the larger...

    Calorifier question?

Calorifier . . . That's a new term for me . . . basically a domestic water heater on a boat. (right)? I happen to have 2 Mercruiser 6.2L engines sitting in my garage. The port engine cooling system was plumbed to the water heater. I'll take a closer look and post some pics. Is your...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

No, because of temperature coefficients of aluminum vs fiberglass, foam, etc.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I got the transom inserts done . . . Here is a picture of the process . . . rolling out each layer to ensure that there are no air pockets. I add the resin (~ 5 oz. ) for each layer and then lay the cloth on top of it so the resin soaks upward into the cloth (or mat), forcing the air out. ...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Yes . . . But all for a good cause :p My latest estimates, based on the recent changes are Bracket ~ 500 lbs. Hull Modifications/bracing ~ 200 lbs Very little weight reduction overall . . . about 200 lbs.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

For those contemplating making a thick plate of fiberglass as I am doing . . . Don't :ROFLMAO: My method has been to lay up CSM & 1708/1808 in alternating layers. I was originally thinking about 22 +/- layers. When I get to 3/4" of build-up, I place some plastic sheeting over the fiberglass...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

1 transom cavity filled with 1" of fiberglass . . . 1 more to go. 22 total layers of 1708,1808, CSM combination . . . 1 gallon of resin.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

More talk about engines . . . I've been soliciting pricing on engines, mostly the 300 HP, but I am getting a quote on the Honda 350's, giving their $10K incentive. Overall, looking at Yamaha, Suzuki, Mercury, Honda. Mostly running in the $90-100K range all in, plus what I'm spending on the...

    Boat value

That strategy never really works . . . potential buyers will probably not care how much money you have invested in the boat. You should list the boat for sale at a price that you think it can sell at and see how it goes. You can always lower your price. It seems like there may be a niche...
