First time pulling an engine questions

Firstly, I'd continually spray the heck out of all the motor mount bolts using some penetrating oil - Kroil, Liquid Wrench or PB Blaster a few times a day before the removal. *Your outdrive has to be removed to remove your engine, no doubt. I'm not sure how your Motor Mount design is on your...

    Sank the 'ol girl!?!

What made you think driving the boat filled w water would rid all the water out? Let alone doing more damage to destroy your engine doing so. 😩🤔🥺. We're you tripping? I would of found someone with a bilge pump like instantly.

Getting a weird grinding sound in Sterndrive. Merc A1-G1.

*I reached out to Ted in the comment section on one of his videos. Ted is a Youtuber - from "TedsMarineRepair8956" - In my opinion, he's an experienced and reputable boat mechanic, in the comments section he quoted me that "you must shift it quickly into gear to prevent the clashing sound" It...

Strange sound that disappears after a few minuets.

Yes mine was persistent when it started making that similar noise, but it didn't the first 3 months when I got the boat. And my boat is 1985 . So, Yours eventually could be persistent. Needless, have a good/qualified mechanic listen to it first, before you think about removing the engine. It...

Strange sound that disappears after a few minuets.

My best guess is It sounds to me like your engine coupler is loose. The coupler attaches to the flywheel. The same thing happened to me. I had to lift the engine and tighten the coupler bolts then realign the engine. When was the last time you had it aligned? To trouble shoot, remove your...

1982 Merc 305 - Stutters after warming up

This was my carb, some before and after pics. When I was done she purred like a kitty. I used a lot of carb cleaner and small pry/cleaning tools etc to remove the crap in this carb. I paid $11 on eBay for my rebuild kit. Here...

1982 Merc 305 - Stutters after warming up

I'd take that old puppy off and rebuild it. If your carb is a Rochester or similiar, the kit is only $12. If you slowly watch this video at first and numerous times, you can rebuild it yourself like I did just a few months back. I never rebuilt a boat carb and had great success with my 1985...

Getting a weird grinding sound in Sterndrive. Merc A1-G1.

I'll drain a lil oil and see if there's any metal on the lower drain screw, it has a magnet on it.

Getting a weird grinding sound in Sterndrive. Merc A1-G1.

I just ran it for 10 min dry land in gear w ear muffs at a decent speed. It's not making the grinding noise now. I turned the wheel and went into reverse. Still no noise.

Getting a weird grinding sound in Sterndrive. Merc A1-G1.

The Gimbal bearing was good when I checked it, just before I put the drive on yesterday. I may drain the lower gear oil and see what's up, in idle it doesn't make that noise, nor in slow speeds. I'll run it and advise if the noise changes when I turn the wheel etc. It could be the joint I...

Getting a weird grinding sound in Sterndrive. Merc A1-G1.

I'm getting a grinding sound in the Sterndrive. A1-G1. I'm gonna drain the gear oil and see what it looks like. Anyone have any ideas you may have experienced with this before. I'll post a video soon.

I noticed I had milky oil when I checked dipstick. Last thing I did was clean the riser and replaced gasket. It never overheated. Ughhh

I took out the boat for 3 hours yesyerday, and I also ran it in dry land for at least an hour, the motor oil looks fine. Guess it was from the riser issue I had previously.

Is there a way to tell if the impeller is working?

I think I may have overtightened/guerilled the water impeller housing. Could that be an issue? I'll know today when I remove the lower unit from the upper and inspect it. PS: Do the impeller blades go counter clockwise?
