    Integrated swim platform leaking?

My 256 SSi has an integrated swim platform. Are they notorious for leaking water in to the bilge/engine compartment? This was the first time using the particular ramp today with my 256 SSi. The ramp is a little steeper than others I've used. When I pulled the boat out of the water, the bilge...

    Help me rewire my Pontoon

If you're planning on having a separate batt switch for the house circuit and a separate batt switch for the motor, then I would say the diagram is correct. The only comment I would make is to add a fuse/circuit breaker on the line between the switch and the fuse block. The fuse block protects...

    SmartCraft Gauge or NMEA2000 Gateway

Is there a way to determine what's available? Outside of navigation related info, is there any engine data that would be displayed on a smartcraft gauge that would be transmitted over 2k from the gateway?

    SmartCraft Gauge or NMEA2000 Gateway

I have a Lowrance Elite that supports 2k, but I know it's far from a bonafide MFD.

    SmartCraft Gauge or NMEA2000 Gateway

Looking for opinions on pros/cons for taking the gauge route or the gateway route. My main goal is to have the ability to track fuel usage. Originally I was thinking of taking the gateway path and hook up to my GPS, but my tach is a little on the bouncy side I have to smack the gauge at times...

    Boat Dry Weight

I have a 2005 Chap 256SSi with the 6.2 B3. I got everything weighed and calculated that the boat is around 5500lbs (I subtracted the weight of full tanks). The published dry weight is 4950lbs. I'm figuring some of the weight difference is due to the engine as gear was on the boat when weighed...

    Merc 5.0 TKS Heat Issue

In addition to Fun Times reply.... I had a 5.0 TKS. Never had any issues like that but I did some reading for my on knowledge. I'll offer my knowledge in case it may help diagnose the issue. TKS engines have 3 different temperature sensors. One of them is a temp switch which is needed for...

Mercruiser 4.3 will not start ( no clicks, not even cranking)

Was the breaker still tripping? This may be a wild idea, try disconnecting the starter wire (should be yellow/red) from the ignition switch. If the breaker still trips when you turn the switch to start, you may have a bad ignition switch.

Mercruiser 4.3 will not start ( no clicks, not even cranking)

What is the voltage reading on the terminals of the breaker? The feed to the breaker comes from the terminal on the starter that is connected to the battery (large gauge wire). If I understand what you've said, you're reading 12v on the starter terminal that's connected to the battery.

    Mercruiser 5.0l TKS (2010 Bayliner 245)

The TKS carbs have that distinct hissing sound. I never really heard it on my last boat unless the engine cover was open. Replacing the diode is as simple as fuse. Hopefully it is just that.

Mercruiser 4.3 will not start ( no clicks, not even cranking)

That circuit breaker is the main breaker for all the engine stuff....it feeds the ignition switch. The rest of the boat should have another main circuit breaker (house circuit). Where are you measuring the 10.9 volts? If it's tripping, you've got a short some where in the start circuit.

Mercruiser 4.3 will not start ( no clicks, not even cranking)

10.9 volts is not good. You've got a bad connection somewhere. The clicking sound may then be that starter relay. I had a 5.0 TKS and the relay was in the area of what your picture shows. It should look something like this (at least it was on my engine). The contact side of the relay is...

Mercruiser 4.3 will not start ( no clicks, not even cranking)

What do you mean by "power is going to the starter"? It could be a couple of things....the ignition switch itself, neutral safety switch on the throttle, or, if you have it, the starter relay on the engine. I would do a voltage check and see if there is voltage on the ignition switch when you...

    Mercruiser 5.0l TKS (2010 Bayliner 245)

If your engine is taking a long time to warm up, have you checked to make sure the thermostat isn't stuck open? I'm kind of thinking the diode in the TKS circuit is blown open. If it is, the TKS module is not being energized while the engine is warming up there by keeping a rich mixture going...

No water flow then no starting

Another observation. If I have the muff running with water and you remove the drain plug on the intake side of the water pump, should water be coming out?

No water flow then no starting

This is the first time bringing my 6.2 MPI out of hibernation (first time with a fuel injected engine). Long story short, hooked up the muffs, engine fired up (yay). After several minutes of running, there still was no water coming out of the exhaust (the block was full of anti-freeze). It...

    Gas seeping from fill cap

That's what I thought. This didn't happen with my 204 but then I never went to the station, filled her up after doing all the winterization. With the 204, I filled it up, brought it back and then winterized it which meant running the engine to do the oil change....I burned fuel doing all that...

    Gas seeping from fill cap

My boat is all winterized including a full tank of gas. I thought this problem went away, but once again I'm smelling a gas odor. Looking at the boat, gas is somehow seeping from the gas cap, running down the trim to a point just past the through-hull drain fittings and then dripping to the...

Is the bilge drain hole to small or am I stupid

Looks like it. I did some googling. It just threw me for a loop because my last boat didn't seem to have the same setup. I was able to get my arm down there and remove the nut/wire and get the oil hose through the hole. I guess it night night for the boat until next season.

Is the bilge drain hole to small or am I stupid

I'm not stupid. One of the screws securing the drain is actually a bolt that has a ground wire attached to it. Is the ground wire attached to the bilge drain fitting normal? Is it for corrosion protection? Is it possible the previous owner had a bilge plug light?
