Bravo 3 loss of lube oil - slowly then rapidly x2

Is drive shaft removal, survey, and reinstall a DIY operation? It would be my first but I do have some general experience with mechanical repairs.

Bravo 3 loss of lube oil - slowly then rapidly x2

Is the bellows sealed at the transom? If so, how did the bilge get loaded with lube oil?

Bravo 3 loss of lube oil - slowly then rapidly x2

Sounds about right. Is it a big fix?

Bravo 3 loss of lube oil - slowly then rapidly x2

After separation, I pressure tested from the reservoir end and it held. So it looks like all lube system is good thru the bell housing. I noticed that lube oil is dripping where the drive shaft goes into the bell housing. I pressure tested (10psi) and sounds like air is coming from the drive...

Bravo 3 loss of lube oil - slowly then rapidly x2

I got them apart. Does the gear housing automatically seal the lube system when separated? Does bell housing end lube line also seal automatically?

Bravo 3 loss of lube oil - slowly then rapidly x2

I was afraid of that. It is so difficult to pull the gear housing off the bell housing. Are there any tips on getting the two apart?

Bravo 3 loss of lube oil - slowly then rapidly x2

I found one problem - fitting 10 (quick connector to the transom passthrough) was cracked. I believe that was the source of the lube oil dump into the bilge. I replaced it and pressure tested from the reservoir hose end to a hose pliers clamped outside - between the transom and the bell...

Bravo 3 loss of lube oil - slowly then rapidly x2

If it's on both sides, would water be coming in through it? How can I test it and what would the fix be?

Bravo 3 loss of lube oil - slowly then rapidly x2

I pulled the boat. I noticed a slight oil stain on the area where the bell housing meets the drive gear housing. The hose from the transom to back of bell housing shows no obvious leaks or damage. But I did find lube oil in the bilge - I traced the hose from reservoir to the transom and all...

Bravo 3 loss of lube oil - slowly then rapidly x2

I have a Bravo 3 outdrive. I recently replaced my lower unit. While I was out slow cruising, I got a low lube alarm. I checked the reservoir and it was down slightly so I filled back up to the line. I anchored out that night and checked the lube level in the morning and discovered that the...

Bravo 3 lube reservoir not draining with outdrive removed

Do I need to pressure test the outdrive after reassembling?

Bravo 3 lube reservoir not draining with outdrive removed

I needed to pull my Bravo 3 outdrive off so I drained the lube oil from the lower unit then pulled the drive. I left the drive off for several days and when I reinstalled it, I was surprised to see that the lube reservoir was still full. Is there a lube check valve between the gear unit and...

Should I use thread sealant when installing new trim hoses?

I'm installing new cylinders and trim hoses. Should I use a Teflon tape, Permatex aviation sealant, or another compound to seal the threads on the hose fittings?

Installing driveshaft housing on to bell housing Bravo 3- do I need sealant between housings? + what kind of grease for shaft?

I'm reinstalling the driveshaft housing onto the bell housing. I will replace the seals with a seal kit but do I need to put a sealant between the two housings? If not, will water get into the bellows? Doesn't seem like the seal between the two housings would be water tight. I also plan to...

    Bravo3 lower unit casing replacement

I have the manuals. And a few of the tools - I was planning to just replace the seals and the carrier bearing but when I went to remove the drain plugs i noticed more of the casing flaking off. I noticed I have some rust forming on my drive and prop shafts so I just gave the a good coat of...

    Bravo3 lower unit casing replacement

It looks like the corrosion of my lower unit casing is much more significant that I originally thought and I'll need to replace it. I've watched a couple of videos on taking a Bravo3 lower unit apart but haven't seen too many on putting one back together - original gears/shafts in new casing...

Does exhaust elbow gasket restrictor have to be replaced if the elbow is removed from the manifold?

I disassembled the exhaust elbow from the manifold. The restrictor elbow gasket looks to be in good shape. Can it be reused or does it need to be replaced if the elbow is removed? -Gil
