    Tillotson TC-5E float needle valve

I also discovered the main jet was one size too big. 0.0960 when it should be 0.0937

Thanks for the confirmation. It's actually very important.

    Tillotson TC-5E float needle valve

Well, my own personal parts bin saved the day again. I have another complete set of carbs and they have inlet seats with rubber tips. I wonder how I can find replacements if these ever fail.

    Tillotson TC-5E float needle valve

I have a metal only inlet needle. But when I look into the seat area I do not see any rubber, I only see metal. So then that means it is not sealing properly, Could this lead to a generally rich mixture and chronic fouling of plugs in a short period of time?

    Tillotson TC-5E float needle valve

Last post is not correct, the carbs are TC-5E

    Tillotson TC-5E float needle valve

I have a 1974 Chrysler 135hp with two Tillotson RC-5E carbs. The float needle valve is all metal and new parts also look like all metal. No rubber/viton tip. Is this correct? Is there a rubber/viton seal inside the carb body? Just double checking since most float needles have to seal completely.

Best 2 stroke oil for Chrysler / Force outboards

cooling system seems correct, good thermostat amd good flow. My lazer temp sensor say very good temps all over the engine. It has primarily been a fresh water motor so the internals seem good.

This is excellent. Real information not just theories. Information based on many years. Thanks again

Best 2 stroke oil for Chrysler / Force outboards

I always run 50:1 and Pennzoil XLF 2 stroke oil. I did discover my carb jets where one size too big. My 1974 Chrysler 135hp has Tillotson TC-5A's carbs, I installed some rebuilt ones a few years ago and they must have had the wrong jets in them and I never checked. The jets were 0.0960. My parts...

Best 2 stroke oil for Chrysler / Force outboards

A look at the piston top from a few days ago. A little carbon around the edges but otherwise shiny and clean in the middle.

Sparks plugs after about 4 hours of running around looking for fish.

Best 2 stroke oil for Chrysler / Force outboards

I have been using Pennzoil XLF for the last 6 years. I bought a gallon of Yamalube. I'll post the results

Best 2 stroke oil for Chrysler / Force outboards

Some say the Yamalube and other high priced oils are better. Less fouling and less smoke and better protection. It's about $40 a gallon but if it is truly better it's worth it.

Best 2 stroke oil for Chrysler / Force outboards

I hear lots on conflicting information on 2 stroke oil. Chrysler/Force owners are a "frugal", some call it "cheap" group. So why spend more on oil than we need to. We also know that we want our old outboards to last. Otherwise we will have to anti-up really big bucks for another brand of...

Are Chrysler motors junk and to be avoided?

Nordin, you are correct. It is a epoxy coil instead of oil filled. I think marine coils are mostly epoxy so they can handle the beating that they take out there on the water so that's why I picked one of them. Plus it is rated properly for the CDI box I bought. It is called a "Blaster Ignition...

Are Chrysler motors junk and to be avoided?

I think instead of a switch to convert to eliminate the magna power I'll just do a jumper wire setup. As far as I can figure the blue ignition wire coming from the electrical block goes to the positive on the coil and the points connection on the distributor goes to the minus on the coil and you...

Are Chrysler motors junk and to be avoided?

FYI, I'm running this automotive coil right now. It's a sealed epoxy coil. With the simplicity of these motors you can adapt off the shelf parts. I think it's great.

Are Chrysler motors junk and to be avoided?

Very true TheForce Power. I improperly diagnosed a bad CDI unit when I should have double checked ALL the basics first. I think I have read on this forum that the chrysler CDI boxes are excellent and that most of the time the problem is points, triggers, coils, plug wires or plugs. There is one...

Are Chrysler motors junk and to be avoided?

From a design standpoint I prefer simple over complex. Fewer parts often means fewer things to fail. I think that is where the Chrysler/Force shine. Also, straight forward troubleshooting. 1. check compression 2. check spark 3. check fuel delivery. That covers so much ground on these motors.
